Can anyone suggest a place where I can get an acrylic dust cover for my TT?

Oops maybe I should specify, can I get one around $100? That pro-ject model seems a bit inflated in price.

Try a local glass shop. Many sell and will fab boxes using Plexiglass/Acrylic. I had a custom cover made by a guy on Audiogon. 1854k was the sellers name. It ran me around $175.

You could make one out of some plexi from your local hardware store. The stuff is pretty easy to work with and all you would need to do is glue it together after you make the cuts.

Mike's not the ...um DIY type. I wouldn't do it either. The Audiogon guy is solid and he's made a couple covers for me on other stuff.

Yeah, I'm only comfortable working with wood and related power tools. Not sure about gluing, but I can sand and stain after adding a few screws.

I did however make a pair of isolation platforms for my CDP and TT. But that only required getting a piece of wood and adding some spikes.

Hey,

I heard back from JMK Displays. Their quote: 16"L x 13"D x 7"H: $78.80 + S/H to your location of $15.45.

For the same size, the audiogon guy is charging $208!

I'm looking into whether JMK offers cutouts for handles and wires like the audiogon guy. Once I know that information we can compare the value of each more accurately.

Since turntables now cost $10K and up that probably isn't so bad. Although you would think that the cover would be standard, or at least an option, since turntables cost so much these days. Covers used to be standard equipment on good turntables.

I spent $1,200 on mine for TT and Phono. Trust me, $350 is too much for a dust cover that can be had for under $100.

I've spent money like an idiot in this hobby enough to know that buying a $350 dust cover is an idiot move.

Only $1200 for a turntable!! Don't let the audiophiles know that. They will tell you that is the starting point for a cartridge. And you need a seperate pre-amp for the cartridge, along with a low-mass, high rigidity, resonance free tone-arm. Then you can buy the turntable, along with the dust cover. :)

Seriously, although I will never go back to turntables, how big a differance are you experiencing in the sound between the turntable and CDs. Are you getting any feedback from sound vibrations being picked up by the turntable?

Well, a 4x8 sheet of lexan (much stronger/scratch resistant than plexi) cost $100 but it is harder to work with. On the other hand, a 4x8 sheet of plexi cost about $40 but is very easy to work with. A plexi cutter, stronge straight edge, a better 12 or $14 caulk gun and some fine silicone and I guy can make as many stabs a a nice box as it takes to get it right. Plexi really is a breaze to make straight cuts in if your box is going to have all right angles in it.

Mike - is the size you got the quote from JMK inside or outside dimensions? I need to get a cover made for my RM5-SE, and that's cheaper than a local shop will make one for.

seems decent, if you get it put up some eye candy.

RT1
