I want to build some stands for lsi9's

I am planning on building some heavy duty stand for the LSI9's. I plan on using 2 2x4's for each stand. For the top and bottom i would like to use thick plywood as opposed to that particle board stuff i can't recall what it is called. MSF i think. I would like to also have sides (maybe 3 to 4 inches high) for the top to make them even more resistant to being knocked off. These stands will be screwed down to the stage of my home theater. I am concerned that they will be knocked down by my 3 yr old and her 3yr old cousin. Has anyone screwed down their stands to the floor. Will this be acoustically a bad idea.

When I use a tuning fork to tune my guitar, I ping it and then rest the bottom of it(the stand part, really) on a surface to make it louder.

Bolting stands to the floor will change how bass travels, since now the floor will act a bit like a speaker. It can be good, it can be bad. But hey, it's a few bolts at the end of the day.

Stands should be stiff, and if possible, heavy. Fill them suckers with sand.

Gotcha! I guess the good thing i have going for me is that the stage will be filled with sand, so that it deadens the sound as soon as the vibration travels through the stands. I am going to try and make them as heavy as possible.

Use MDF for the top and bottom plates. MDF is more inert than plywood. You could make the top and bottom plates 1.5 inches thick.

as for keeping the speakers from being knocked off the stand just buy some blu-tak. it is reusable poster putty adhesive that will hold them down nice and tight and won't damage your speakers

I really like this simple, yet effective design... but I don't really understand the part on how to attach the PVC to the two pieces of wood on either side.

Also, is blu-tak really enough to keep such heavy things like speakers on their respective stands (my goal is to purchase either a LSi9 or CMT-340SE... probably the CMT cuz it's cheaper)?

The threaded rod sandwiches everything together. You're basically putting a big long bolt between the two pieces of wood and through the PVC. here is my old build page with some pictures.

The blu-tak will hold PLENTY strong. it is a bit of work to get the stuff to let go of your speakers. If someone were to bump into my speakers the stands would fall over before the blu-tak would let go of the speakers.
