Absolutely, I like the old Sansui stuff to. They just don't make things like that anymore.
My very first integrated was a Sansui AU-5900 brand spanking new, present from my dad, speaker was a pair of Tamon (don't even know what that brand has morph to), and a Sony cassette deck TC-136SD (I think). Whoa. :)

That it did, that it did... Cost more than the original unit for the mods.
Removed the dust cover for the TT, and purchased the TT Fairy Dust that was applied strategically around the platter. Once the MIT's were added........fahgeddaboutit. The eq was modified for better definition between channels.
And most important, was the modified buttons on tape deck A. Really rounded out the overall dynamics.

Of course, to the untrained eye. But in reality, it's been removed for replacement. I found a specially treated wooden knob for a sweet 4-figure price.
I should see enough improvement in bass response to eliminate one of my subs. Saweeeet.

You should look into getting a Monster Cable decal for it as well. I've heard that using one of those can actually double your power output. They're also well known for removing all traces of distortion from your system.
That in combination with your 4-figure wooden volume knob...and you'd have the most rocking system you could possibly have. There would be absolutely no way to upgrade it.

Just ripped this image off on fleaprey. Sansui AU D7 integrated. I had a silver D5 which is identicle. Just lower output. This was the heart of my first real system. The D5, an Akai GX F35 cassette and a Pioneer turntable. This amp lasted me over 20 years before it quit. I could've kicked my wife's butt for throwing it out. I still use the Akai in my bedroom rig. It's about 30 years old now and still sounds as good as the day I bought it. The Pioneer table is boxed up in the gear closet someplace.

It's really funny...all of you guys think you know what Hi-Fi is? You have no idea...the only way to really understand the meaning of the word is by hearing this.
My World Class, Reference Grade, Goldstar 5300 Mini-component system. Complete with Toshiba CDP that was produced in 1986.
http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww160/comfortably_curt/4.jpg
You'll notice immediately that it displays it's enormous amount of power output right on the front, so everyone knows just how badass it really is. With an unprecedented 50 watts per channel, it's plenty to rock even the biggest stadiums with ease.
Your eyes are then drawn to the ultra high-tech 5 band graphic equalizer, complete with balance control!! Not also, the complete lack of a volume knob. This World Class piece of equipment uses the much superior two-way button, for extremely precise control of volume. This unit also offers the convenience of automatically turning the volume all the way up upon powering up.(seriously...lol) Don't forget to turn that volume WAY down before you press play!
Moving down to the CD player...which is also a World Class Reference quality piece of equipment. You'll immediately see the extraordinarily huge "play button". This is to maximize your ability to hit the play button. It really comes in handy while you're wasted, and can't seem to work the stereo quite right. This has helped me on numerous occasions.
Now we move on to the mods that have been performed on this stellar unit.;)
Here you can see the "let my friend borrow it because he didn't have a stereo, and he dropped it and f-ed it up beyond all hell mod". This made the sound quality go up like you wouldn't believe. I've also recently performed the "covered in dust" mod...which has also made the SQ go way up. It really helped clear the midrange up after I let it get covered in dust. I recommend that all of you try it.

You've got it partially right. I was going to try to type in the amplifier topology, but it would take me the entire night to really describe it.
One thing though...the squirrel cages actually have dwarf Emu's in them. That's another mod I performed myself.

You don't even want to know how much that mod would cost. It's a very time consuming process. Upwards of 7 figures...that's all I'll say.
The Emu's were raised on a diet of cheap whiskey, cigarettes and stale cereal. I found that to be the most productive diet for the Emu's in my rig. It can vary depending on your application though.

So just because I don't own a Corvette doesn't mean I can't talk about them? I know quite a bit about them, and I can name the year and model of just about any Corvette that I see...I've read several books about them...and I've driven several of them before. Thanks for telling me that I can't talk about them just because I don't own one. I'm going to have to completely change the way I think now after reading that post.
Yes, you can talk all day long about Corvette but when you talk to Corvette owners about their cars, they wonder WTF you are talking about.

Umm...right. I've talked to quite a few Corvette owners about their cars before. They were quite engaging conversations on more than one occasion too. I'm pretty sure that people who own cars like that don't mind talking about them. They own them for a reason...because they like them. I don't see how not owning a Vette is going to make a Corvette owner not want to talk to someone about them.
me-"Hey that's a nice Vette you got there!"
Corvette owner-"Do you own a Corvette?"
me-"no."
Corvette owner-"Shut the hell up."

Well I must have passed the quiz then I guess. He went back home, and I didn't get kidnapped, so I guess I'm all good. The only question I missed was "SDA's are made by Polk Audio? True or false". On a side note...I have the Cambridge DVD89 now...I'm very very impressed with it. Just got done with the DSOTM SACD...and I was blown away. I'm hearing all sorts of nuances that I've never heard before.

Hey Shack,
As for the extra 7 channels - XPA-5 will look after centre and surround duty, and zone 2 for my outside speakers on my deck (where the barbie is :D) - picked up a pair of used Polk RT-5's for that recently. Then for the LSi9s, they will get either the RPA-2 or XPA-2, whichever sounds better with them, as music is my main concern. I am also upgrading to LSiC and LSi7s, so I'll need the external amps for those anyway.
As for Emu, yep it has been known that we cook one of our national icons

As an aside...I have no problems with some liking their gear....I mean REALLY LIKING their gear and letting everyone know. But folks tend to get tired of the constant "giant killer" or "better than costing thousands more" hype that some want to perpetuate. If it's good gear...GREAT...then you have good gear. We have gone through the same thing with SVS, OPPO and others. Good products, sure...but not be all...end all stuff. It's the fanboy mentality that gets threads like this started...everyone has opinions...and the chances of anyone changing someone else's is slim to none.
Now.... I would like to see this tread get back to more pointless tangents that has nothing to do with what the elitist, audio snob Ricardo originally posted. Carry on.

Peanut butter sandwiches are timeless. I will never get tired of them...Especially when you throw some jelly into the mix.

Mmmmmmm ....... peanut butter and jelly sammiches ..... When I make mine, I always glob the peanut butter on one piece of bread and then plop a glob of butter into the peanut butter and smoodge it around. Not too much, mind you; just enough to where they are together but not totally blended.
I have pretty sophisticated tastes.
Still no fires or flames. I may ask for a raise Tuesday.

It doesn't work like that. You can't just hook your speakers directly up to the Emu. You have to have dwarf Emu's for starters, is that what you were using? It's a very extensive modification that must be performed to your amplifier to get the best results. I'd be glad to do it for you, for the very reasonable price of 128,000 dollars. It'll be the best money you've ever spent, I guarantee it.;)
It will sound much better than your NADS do.
