I think i got a good deal on this amp. The pawn shop had it listed for $349, but I talked down to $280 out the door. Do you think this amp will be an improvement over my Yamaha vtx1800 receiver which puts out 130 wtts a channel?

Totally!

I've got the V1800 as well, but run a monster modified Carver M1.0-t to my RTiA3s.

WAAYY better - relaxed dynamics, more headroom, tighter dampening - especially as you get closer to reference volume and the sound stage is intact and no harshness from driving the avr to its limits.

I think you are in for a treat!! Be sure to pick up a pair of GOOD quality interconnects from the V1800 pre outs to the Carver.

Keep us posted....

Can't even compare those two. Hands down, Carver is the beast to beat. Check out www.carveraudio.com forums too.

Great deal, I have the analog meter version TFM-45. At the price you paid you could afford to send to Rolland for a rebuild and get another 20 years out of it all the while maintaining resell value higher than you paid.

let the amp do the explaining.... the sonic differences are worth the investment

you should notice a big improvement in the sound quality, better clarity and separation of instruments, etc

Just do what I do, Just tell you always owned it, for the past 5 years, you just never hooked it up. Works everytime ;)

Now I like that idea, have not tried that one. I usually don't say anything until the day it is to arrive. Better to ask for forgiveness than as for permission.

I just say "Oh I bought it, you remember?, that time when I had that big job and I made $20,000 and I just never got a chance to hook it up" LOL
