Yammy RXV861, 7X105.
I like this receiver but it doesn't decode DD-hd, DTS master HD. I am pretty sure that it will pass it through (read on another forum) but I cannot be sure.
Believe it or not not too bright when used with a separate amp for my a5's (acurus).
Leaning towards an Onkyo 706 receiver, OR Pioneer BDP 51FD BR player.
(or posiibly both:eek:)
Had the receiver for exactly a year and paid $500 US inc shipping
Give me you thoughts
thanks in advance

Why so quick to down on the Onk's?:p;)
I personally love my Onkyo...as do many other people. I will agree though, that if you already like the way your Yammy sounds...you'd probably do best to go with another Yamaha.
The 706 is a very nice receiver though IMO. I love the way Onkyo's sound.

I don't have an interest in either one so no brand bashing involved here. It just seems like a good time to experiment. Getting the "signature" right is the first step, decoding is the second. If you like the Yamaha sound however?

I emailed Yamaha this morning to find out if this RXV861 will pass the decoded signal through. Their response was as long as the signal was allready decoded it would pass the signal through.
I will be hanging onto this receiver a bit longer now. Or if I find a smokin deal on an Oinker i will retire this to the work out room.
The 861 is a good receiver...although it sounds different from the Onkyo. I see no reason to get rid of it. I knew that receiver passes already decoded LPCM. When I bought my Denon 2807 I made certain that it would do the same. I just recently got myself a PS3 so I'm set! And so are you. Get a PS3 or any Blu-ray that will decode HD-formats and forget about the upgrade for now.
BTW I also have an Onkyo 605 that I really like. It does HD-sound and I use it in my second system which is an all Polk M Series: 70s, CS2, 30s. Along with a Toshiba HD-DVD I bought for very little money, mostly for its upconversion of DVDs--I have a few HD-DVDs as well.
Good decision....If you do go Onkyo...try to get an 876 or 905 (expensive but worth it).

CNH thanks for the advice, I like this receiver as well. I am going to buy the Pioneer player sometime this week. I will keep an eye out for a decent Oinker to come up on fleabay.
