I'm in the market for a new multichannel amp, as Im wanting to clean up the audio rack for some space. I'm thinking of buying Sunfire as I can't seem to get Emotiva here due to weight restrictions and I'm tired of paying those expensive shipping costs. So after much searching on the 'Gon I'm thinking Sunfire. I'm looking at Sunfire Cinema Grand as it looks to be all the power I need for my 5 channels, since Im running 525 wpc to my fronts with my D-Sonic IcePower amp. Any thoughts on this this model? Anyone here using that model or have any experience with it? Thanks all.

I have the Sunfire 400~7 amp & an Ultimate Receiver (same amp w/200 wpc). They sound fantastic & will drive ANY load with ease. What do you want to know?

Basically Im inquiring about reliability. The model I'm looking at has that meter in the front which lights up, any problems with it, among any other concerns is what I'm after. I'll be using the amp overseas some so reliability is a must. I know nothing is bulletproof, however I'm trying to get something that will last and not be problematic if that makes sense. Thank you for your information, I was also wondering how the amp would sound compared to my Outlaw Monoblocks.

I've had three Sunfire amps and they've been incredibly reliable/bulletproof. I sold one to a friend in Maine & UPS stuck a fork lift THROUGH the side of it; it STILL worked!
What is the voltage where you will be using the amp? Japan? What about cycles (50/60)? Are you planning to use a converter?

110/60 hz so I'm good there.

Sunfire has some awesome amps that kick some serious ass.
What do you feel your missing with your current D-Sonic ICE amp though? Do you like the sound of it?

Love the sound of the IceAmp, I wont be replacing it. I'll just be using the Sunfire to power the center and remaining surround speakers. I'll keep the D-Sonic upfront, and use my SC-07 as my Pre/Pro. The new Sunfire will be replacing my Outlaw M2200 Monoblocks though; which sound very good, however I want to increase space in my rack.

That's a lot of power for some surrounds. Which Sunfire model were you looking at?

Im looking at the Sunfire TGA 5200 or the Sunfire Cinema Grand as both are 5x200 wpc and should run my 5 speakers (center, surrounds, rear surrounds) just fine. I run a 7.2 setup so my D-Sonic 1000S will be more than enough on the Rti12s @ 525 wpc.
Basically what I want is one box, multichannel amp solution so I can move the monoblocks, perhaps sell them for cheap here.

Why not do another ICE amp solution?

Thats alot of wattage for surrounds.....why not just let the receiver take care of the surrounds and move a mono to the center channel ?

Here's another option for you. http://www.wyred4sound.com/webapps/site/74030/117839/shopping/shopping-view.html?pid=339144&b_id=&find_groupid=18048 or why not another 3 channel amp from D-Sonic.

I have the outlaws on the center, side surrounds, so as it stands I have 3 now and my SC07 is driving the rear surrounds. The Sunfire will replace the monos, and drive the rear surrounds and I'll just use the SC07 as Pre/Pro only.

WTH is everyone so concerned about the possible wattage that the speakers could be getting? They will only take what they need, have plenty of reserves, & sound great to boot!
Mine sound terrific having access to my Sunfire amp. I can hear everything as clear as a bell. A hell of a lot clearer then when they were hooked up to my Denon!
The rear speakers deserve and function just as nicely as the fronts do when hooked up to more power, and they certainly aren't hurt by it. So what's the problem?
These artificially made up rules on what speakers get what kind of power is absolute BS & need to be eliminated!

I was refering to him getting the sunfire 7400 didn't know he was actually looking at the 5200. Either way his surrounds will never need 200 watts but it's always good to have too much rather than not enough.
Calm down sweety. :)

Sherardp, There's no Audio Stores by you? So you don't have to pay for shipping?

Yes there are a few local shops here, but they mainly carry Accphase, Krell, McIntosh, and other brands. You have to think Japan so allot of it is going to cost major coin out here as well.

ROTFLMAO!!!!:D Leroy, I have the 5 channel 405wpc version of Sunfire, & it certainly isn't damaging my fxi3's. They've never sounded better. Whether he gets the 5200 or the 7400 the speakers will handle it just fine.
Unless he does something stupid like turn the volume all the way up & blows them up, it just shouldn't be an issue. Course if he does he'll be deaf & won't need a system anymore!:D

Have you looked at any other brands? I just got the Rotel 1095 (200 watts@8 ohms x5) for $1000 and it sounds great and it'll save you a little money and there's a couple on the GON.
Also the New digital amps from Rotel should match up with you D-Sonic amps pretty good. Just a thought.

I looked at the 1095, however its too heavy to ship. I need whatever I purchase to be under 75lbs as that is the weight restriction to ship via USPS to me here in Japan. Anything over that has to come UPS and then you start talking 300-500 to even 1000 for shipping. Emotiva quoted me 385 for the XPA-5 so I'm seeing what else is out there. 40-50 lbs for the Sunfire, though I havent seen it sounds like its pretty well built and for the price of 800-1500 depending which one I buy seems like a fair price, being that that go for 2000-3000 new.

Appreciate the feedback guys, Im excited to install it, and see how it performs in my HT. Quick question though being there are two different hook ups for the front left/right which are most of you using?

You can mix/match to your liking. If you have a jones for tubes, try the current taps. You can also bi-wire with the current taps to the upper range & the voltage taps to the low range; a match made in heaven!
