All in all thinking you're going to need a driveway all said and done. :( All the banging nailing giving my a headache :( Nervous about turning up stereo too loud as I don't wish someone to visit me later when its quite and no ones home ;) But being close to my 357 Mag is priceless. :D

God Bless you sir, that got to be one of the hardest, hottest job in the world. I love anyone who does this for a living. :)
If you can tell it something I would ever do for a living you're so correct.

Roofing is one job that no matter how much the pay was.......I would NOT do it.
I'd rather be homeless living in a cardboard box listening to a battery powered BOSE than to roof for a living. F that!!!

Thanks. Working on another short sleep night again due to this sign a waver issue. Having drove an out rigger truck I can say you can F'up anything with those if you wished. I grateful for their concern and my wiliness to work with them, and it looks so far I would need a driveway later. :)

All you need is a JLG Boom lift. A 600S would surely do the trick. Our biggest one does a 150 feet easy, and it will creep at 2-4mph if you so choose to drive @ that height.

Geez, remember being a young buck when i first got into construction 25 years ago, i framed up alot of homes, and did my share of roofs. No boom trucks, or conveyors, grab a bundle and head up 2 stories lol. Sometimes making a game of it, 2 80lb bundles on your shoulder and see who could reach the top first! Real safe huh? Those days are over, havent done a roof in awhile now. But if i do thank god for the boom truck!:)

Boom truck????? I've never seen one around here. They push off a couple
of pallets of materials off a truck a day or two ahead of time.
Then a crew of guys shows up and goes nuts. It's loud.
Nobody but the lead guy speaks English. Welcome to the modern
age. First time I had it done here, the crew was pretty rotten.
My wife(she was a realtor) found a crew for the 2nd re-roof that's pretty good. They
clean up after there mess pretty well, and were able to strip and
re-roof in a single day. They have done a lot of repair work for the wife
on homes for sale. A dependable roofer is one who's card you keep!

How many squares for the roof?
disneyjoe7
02-25-2009, 12:00 AM
Not sure but was told it was 4402sg ft. I think that's 44 not sure if a square is 10x10' or 9x9' which someone told me.

Yes, 10x10 covers 100 square feet. roughly 44 squares.

You'd be impressed to know how many cutoffs and checks we have in place to prevent tipover. Ive taken them up to the max, and yes its gets scary but Im proof positive, these machines are safe.

I know they're hard to tip over, just wish the JLG's were a bit smoother. Even in crawl mode, they're quite jerky compared to a Genie. Both get the job done, though. I've been up at 150' on a windy day...white knuckle ride for sure.

Our roof needed replacement back in 2003, so we scheduled it and went to Europe for three weeks. :D
I found a couple nails in the backyard when we got back. Great experience!

Worst thing you could ever do. They presumably took the old roof off... you have no idea what they found underneath or how they covered it back up.
Anytime you have a contractor working at your house, BE THERE!.

I agree I happy to be able to be here why they replace it. It wasn't allow really sweet to be here while they were working, but I like to know what they are doing.

I did my own roof a couple of years ago. The roofing company estimated $4200 for the job using cheap 20 year 3 tab shingles, + any decking that needed replacement. My little brother is a roofer, cost of doing it ourselves was less than $1800, using the best architectural 40 year shingles, and replacing over a third of the decking. None of it had water damage, but in the 70's when the house was built they used plywood, it warps over time and just looks bad (wavy roof). Also added ridge vents, and replaced all the vent boots and furnace vent flashing, things that the contractor had not put on his bid.
Took us two days for a complete tearoff and re-shingle. Saved a ton of money, and ended up with a much better quality roof than the contractor would have done, but it did give me much more respect for roofers, there is no way I could do that every day for a living.

The shingles are 30 year architectural GAF/ELF, but I don't think roofers or anyone making a killing on any work as they all seem hungry for the business. The material price was a bit high when I estimated the price given the size so overall it's was a fair price IMHO. Happy camper. :)
Anything over 30 year shingles in Florida isn't worth it, as it needs to be replaced every 15 years or so any way.
