How to download firmware updates?

I've never once downloaded any firmware updates for anything and I'd like to for my PS3, how do I go about doing that and at what websites? I'm pretty ignorant on the subject of internet upgrades through USB/ethernet ports.

Firmware upgrades happen automatically when you sign on to the PSN network. If it's not prompting you to update when you sign on, then you most likely have the latest firmware.

Been putting off going through the manual in depth, lol.:rolleyes: Have seen the PSN network on the menu, but havent gone into it. But do i need to hookup to my computer to receive future updates?

I honestly have no clue if there is another way to receive firmware updates. I've had my PS3 hooked up via wireless connection since day one, and updates are just automatic when you turn on the PS3 and sign in, makes it simple and carefree.

Thanks Metal. Im not hooked up wireless, need to do that. Gotta start paying attention to some of these details regarding equipment. lol :rolleyes:

How bout' this for ya,

You can DL the PS3 updates on your computer and save onto a USB Thumb Drive. Then plug USB thumb drive into PS3 and update that way. Follow link below for step by step.

The automatic updates are called software updates. Are you sure that firmware is the same thing?

i have the ps3 , yes the system update is the same as a firmware update. you can do it manually if you like just scroll to your left on your ps3 menus and look for system update, it will then tell you if the latest version is on your system or not. if it isnt it will ask you how you want to load the lastest update. internet, usb , etc. hope this helps. jeff

I use Comcast internet cable for my internet, do I plug the internet wire into the ethernet port of the PS3 and other electronics I have that have ethernet ports and it will automatically send the updates into the system it's connected into?

I don't know about your other electronics, but in regards to the PS3, yes. You can hook the cable right into the ethernet port. It will prompt you to accept an update when you sign in, that is if your system is not up to the current firmware version already.
