Did a small side job for a customer recently, and noticed a pair of these in their basement tv room. They claim they bought them about 20 years ago and expressed interest in selling them. Look in decent shape. One midrange and two bass drivers. They werent hooked up, anybody ever heard these? Should i jump on them if the price is right? Not replacing my current setup, im Polks all the way, just thought i could get a good deal.

My mother, a long time ago, told me that if I don’t have anything nice to say I don’t need to say anything at all. That is my comment about all B&W loudspeakers excluding the 800 series.:D

I have been thinking of getting some B&W speakers. I know the 800 series Nautilius are highly regarded and quite expensive. Some people here have said that they are better than Polk's LSi series. I have been wanting to give them a try but wanted to buy an older line since I don't have the money for the 800 series. Are you saying that ANY older line is inferior?

The older, and newer 800 series are incredible. I just don’t prefer any other B&W speaker series because they can be bettered by a lot of different brands within the same price range. Many speakers can sound good in home theater, but few sound good in music. It’s my opinion that B&W doesn’t make any speakers that offer value in music listening until you get to the 800 series, new, and, or old.

I've had a pair of those and they're not bad. I wouldn't pay over $100-120 and that's if they look minty fresh.

I have to respectfully disagree. I auditioned the 685s with a marantz receiver and the sound for music, was very nice indeed. Excellent detail and while the bass is not over powering it is smooth and tight. Very good book shelf for the money. Just my opinion
