End of era - BMG Music Service discontinued as of June 30, 2009

We'd like to tell you about some upcoming changes to your membership.

BMG Music Service is being discontinued as of June 30, 2009.
That doesn't mean your music savings are coming to an end. Your savings can continue with our other service, yourmusic.com, where shipping is always free and there are no automatic shipments.

Here’s some important information regarding your current account:
You will receive one more Featured Selection Announcement email from us.
You will still be able to shop at bmgmusic.com through May 31, 2009.
We have discontinued our Music Points program, effective January 31, 2009. You will be able to redeem your outstanding music points through April 30, 2009.
You'll have through May 31, 2009 to redeem certificates or free CDs you've earned.

It doesn't surprise me. I have placed 4 orders in the last couple of months and on each and every one they have sent me something telling me an item I ordered was no longer available. I even tried to use my music points which are going away and the item I ordered is "no longer available". Odd, since it is a brand new item just added to the club. They have really sucked lately. I was going to close my account that has been open for 15 years because of the CS and the fact that they have nothing much worth ordering anymore.

I just checked my account to view outstanding orders. Guess what? Every single title is "temporarily out of stock". Funny thing...all of the titles are availble at yourmusic.com (where I can continue my membership when BMG closes)...at higher prices of course.

ASSHOLES! I will not be doing business with them in the future.

The Internet killed em long ago IMHO
When BMG started there was no Internet to get Cd's from.
Now you have Amazon.com and several other places.

From my experience long ago BMG was a pain in the ass.
Buy a selection and the kept sending crap ya didn't want.
Then if your were late getting it back to em....you bought it.
Buy 2 get one free.....yeah riiiiight nothing is free......you paid for that free one some time or another.

Bottom line.....the writing was on the wall.

I remember doing a get 12 free if you buy 1 CD a very long time ago. Hey, no brainer. 13 CD's for the price of 1. Ended up costing me something like $70 mostly under "shipping and handling". Sure, the price was cheaper than if I had bought each CD individually but you just couldn't quite get that feeling of getting suckered out of your mind. I think they attempted to change that hidden cost but I wasn't going back regardless of repeated mailing offers.

I've done comparisons between BMG CDs and other CDs and their quality SUCKED. If you look closely, much of their stuff was specifically record by or for BMG and not the original CDs from the manufacturer. That was ONE of the nails in the coffin as far as I was concerned.

That's pretty much how i remember them as well.

It was as if they were copied from a 3rd generation copy, normal bias cassette tape.

Many eons ago I was a member of the Columbia House Record Club. Same kind of set up as BMG but it was vinyl. Maybe with the resurgence of vinyl.......
