yep, the sun has been shining the past few days, the water temps are just beginning to rise, so its so long to the fog, gray morinings, and the bottom fish, the top water action will be starting soon and its hot and heavy, so Polkies who have never felt something pull on a line that is stronger than you are, come on down and we will do it in the salt, except if brett is aboard, then you many have swab something else!!!!!!!!!! he is first mate so he leaves the Captain alone:D ok ok just kidding, relax. I fish from five to fifty miles out and I have way more trips catching than fishing, ReelTrouble finds the fish.

There is just nothing like a day on the ocean then coming back to the cool Shed being worn out from fighting these big fish then relaxing with a cold one a soft chair and some great tunes........an awesome time.

Sweet fat reds! Hooking a hard running red is a blast. My buddy and I go out from St Augustine anywhere from 5 to 85 miles. The shelf is pretty far offshore. When the temp/currant/drop off are all at one the Hoo's are amazing. My boat was stolen, but I have all sorts of gear here just collecting dust. Have you tried Avet reels yet? I will not go back to Penn. Well except my LD225 has been a tried and true smooth strong performer.

I am pretty much all Penn, but they all work and the fish dont care, its the fish in the Fisherman that really counts, just one thing, when short on bait I have been known to "request" the donation of a few toes.

biggest battle last year 3 hours on a 8-9 ft blacktip on 20lb test.....lost that one.......bummer

best victory 40 lb King Mackeral on the same rig.........got of pic of that one somewhere.

I let the newbs think the Reel t Reel thing for the S/N, except for Dawgfish, he got it right away, go figure, he lives near me and we will be wetting some lines, now I am serious, the Golden Isles of Georgia is a great place to visit and we will hit the water, of course I have to find my way out of the Rabbit Hole.

I'm mostly a Bass fisherman myself, I do a lot of lake and pond fishing. But I love to hit the salt water for some Stripers at least a few times a year.

well those fish in the pics begin life as spottail bass, once they are out of the slot they become bull reds.

They pull like a freight train, better have enough line or you might get spooled when they run.

Isles of Georgia

Beautiful place. My brother and sister inlaw live very close to that area, I think St. Marys. When we were visiting last year, I took the kids to St. Simons Island and we loved it!
The next day we went out on the great salt ways fishing near some huge submarine station, but all we caught we a bunch of sharks and rays. Still fun to reel in; I caught one about 4 feet long.

Just thinkin' bout fishin' makes want to go hit a farm pond today!;)

Nice catch. I've been dying to get into that kind of fishing. Have relatives who go out about that distance, love the sea. I'm sure I'd become a lifetime addict if I got out just ONCE.

A trusted friend, his name is Rusty, a good Joe salt of the earth kind of guy, faithful friend and boatmate, he never had alot of material things, but he has a great wife and is the kind of fellow who would give you his last dollar if you needed it and would go without for his-self. It was always a great day when we would fish together.

Oh yea, he also never caught alot of fish before we hooked up, when he caught that Red he was like a kid in a candy store, we were doing a bit of competetive fishing that day and that Red did bring him a prize.

Let me ask a stupid question. What's with the gloves? I don't know the first thing about fish or fishing except how much a pound at the grocery store. Are they that sharp or will the fish bite?

The gloves are so you can scratch your nose without puking after you handle the fish.

oh Gawd, you fellows realize GG was the Man, in charge of millions of dollars of aircrafts, might explain the reported droppings from his flight logs??

if a fish does that then I would of hate to walked into the room after GG had a date with three finger Hanna........

As far as the gloves, OK, these fish are protected after they get big like that, you have to put them back, so, you are asked to try and cause as little damage to the fish as possible and make sure it swims off to fight another day. The gloves make handling the fish much easier and lessen the damage to the natural coating the fish has on its body.

Despite the bad rap many sport fisherman get most are actually well aware of environmental issues and take care to protect their local fisheries.
