Monitor 5 JR+

Does anyone have a personal opinion of these speakers? Any input would be appreciated.

They are great little speakers that are fully capable of sucking you into the vintage Polk scene. First you will really like the sound, and start reading and talking about them here. Then you want the upgraded tweeters. After that you will start hearing about the crossover upgrades that brings them up another substantial level. After enjoying them so much you will probably want to move on to bigger and better vintage Polk's like bigger monitors, or SDA's even. They will continue to keep giving that I just discovered something new feeling. You will start looking for better gear to drive them with. Most likely you don't believe that cables make a difference, but after all the time and money invested in the gear you have been acquiring over the next few years you will most likely try cables. Wanting more you with either go down the lets try vinyl road, or tubes. Eventually you will be left will no money, but the satisfaction your rig gives you may lead you to purchase more gear, or different music to satisfy your addiction to audio. You may even spend your food, or bills fund to purchase more audio nirvana.

I have a pair. Very nice bookshelf speakers and is very easy to push. They go for about $75.

Thanks for the welcoming! Thought I would ask about these as I spotted a pair on ebay that look pretty good that I was going to bid on. I am in the market for something about that size to put in the office.
Not sure if I am ready for the future that Ben had pointed out for me yet tho'!!

You might want to leave now Epiphone...or else you're going to be very hungry while you're sitting around listening to your 10,000 dollar stereo. The starvation factor will be insignificant though, because the tunes will be phenomenal.;)

I've never heard the 5Jr+'s before...but I own a pair of Monitor 7A's. They sound spectacular...I'm guessing the Jr+'s do as well. The vintage Polks are excellent speakers for music listening. I say go for it.

What are you planning on driving them with? Do you have a setup already...or is it still up in the air?

Right now I have an old Kenwood (mid 90's) that I've packed around for years that I was going to use. Will probably change that later. Nothing over the top for now, just needing something that sounds good.

I think that they are a good deal. I just didn't want to tromp on you since I think you saw them first and seem interested.

If not I might try for them. I really would like to find a nice pair of Monitor 5's though.

I've got a pair of 5jr+ (the ones with the silver dome and the passive radiator).

I think they're a great little speaker =)

I get the feeling, from some other threads, there was some inconsistency with which tweeter ended up in the box?

I think I'll throw the 2500s from my Monitor 12s in the 5jr+ when I upgrade to the 198s =) I notice the 2000s are a bit harsh compared to what I hear from the 2500s.

I have had a couple sets of the 5jr (one pair went to zingo, who modified and then sold to a forum member IIRC) with the sl2000 and passive.

I think they have an excellent vintage Polk sound for their size.

thanks for the input...it sounds like they would probably be a good purchase...but i think i'll hold out for a bit and do some more research on a better 2 channel receiver first and then hunt down some speakers.

I have a pair of Monitor 7A's, which are a bigger brother to the 5Jr's. I use the 7's for both 2 ch. listening and front channel duty in my HT. They excel at both.
