I had a Sony S550 and it had some issues and when I played Miami Vice it froze in the same spot twice. That seems to be a movie problem. I have a new machine and it seems to work fine, but I am afraid to play Miami Vice again because it seemed to really screw up a machine that might have had some issues on its own...but strange that it would freeze twice (2/3rds through the movie...brand new clean disc).

Tonight I put in Lord of War and it would not play. Kept saying unkown on player and on screen that disc could not be played. Cleaned every little smudge from it.

I know players can be touchy, but anyone had issues with these movies, especially Miami Vice...I really want to watch the BR version.

Thanks for any help.

Neil, I'm not a BD player wizard or anything, but what about firmware updates for your unit? I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with your problems or not. Some of the others with more experience should chime in on this.

I put on the latest firmware update....the Sony instructions left a lot to be desired....but it got done.

Seems odd to me that a disc (Miami Vice) would not just stall out but would also screw up how the player worked.

I have heard that some BRD's just won't play on some players...though that seems weird if this is a standardized technology. Thanks. Any other opinions out there?

I have a PS3. Never had an issue playing blu rays, but I only have a couple movies on BD anyway. This technology is still kinda new so who knows. For the most part, I use an up-converting DVD player with my HT.
It's less expensive to buy previously viewed standard def titles that I like, which does well enough for me. Good luck though on working this out.
