Once you login(free registration), the price drops to 599.99

I purchased this Pre-amp for 1400 and it was a steal in 07...

This is a GREAT pre-amp for any one looking to go the separates route.

The Onkyo link doesn't come back with anything...

Looks like it sold out for the time being...

I would check back on the sales page periodically if you are wanting one...

Its working for me. I'm still able to add it to a cart and all.

At first blush, this sounds like a great deal, but it seems that you can get a new model now for $950 or so online. That extra $350 for a new model and an extra year's warranty sounds more enticing to me.

1 - 600/950 = 63%. That's over 1/3 off from new, I think it is a great deal.

Indeed. Another way of looking at it is you are paying 2/3 for 1/2 the warranty. Each to his own, but that difference makes me think twice about biting on the refurb. BTW, it's $928 new at at least one place online.

I don't think it's a good deal, but then, I already owned one.

There will be no more firmware updates to fix the remaining bugs.

With the sub 1k new price showing up and the refurb sale, it does feel like Onkyo is trying to clear out inventory - hopefully for an updated unit. Bring on the 887 so I can afford an 886.

The main purchase is the product though, not the warranty. I guess you always get the extended warranty as well that the merchants try to sell. I never do. As for refurbs, they either work great or have some quirks that the original owner discovered but the factory testers didn't. The first, you get a great deal. The latter, you return it.

I would give this one a serious consideration, with its obvious faults and all, but I'm afraid of the trademark bright Onkyo sound that I do not like at all. Not sure if this one has it or not.

That's a killer price. To be honest though, I've heard about a lot of gripes concerning the 885. It seems that a lot of these problems have been fixed with the 886 though.

I have had the 885 since launch...

I have not had any issue's with the Unit... I also have a friend who has had one since Launch without any issues..

Main issues that I have people complain about is lip sync issues, no configuration to REON, and no audessey pro setup..

What major gripes have you heard about the unit?

I think that for the price of the 885 it is a great deal, for everything it brings to the table..
