I'm looking at single disk DVD/DVD-A/SACD/CD player and picked up the Pioneer DV-49AV which is being delivered to me on Monday, however I see that the Denon DVD-1940CI is available at less than $100 which looks like a great buy right now. Are there any issues with it? I couldn't find any serious negative reviews. I could always use another one now that my old Akai player is in the process of dying.

The Denon players in general are very nice. I owned one myself. But they tend to have high failure rates. They break down a lot. Pioneer on the other hand do not. They have a very low failure rate. Actually I don't ever recall having to replace on in the field. I have done tons of Denons.

I own the Pioneer Elite dv58av for that duty and I love it. It's well built and performs exaclty how I expected. It only has to pass the signals over to the receiver, no processing or anything it needs to do.

Thank you for the information. The Denon was significantly marked down from the $300 list price so it sent off alarms to me. When it is too good to be true it usually isn't.

I compared the DV58AV with the DV49AV and didn't see a lot to justify the cost difference. Perhaps I missed something. Please let me know if I did. I'm looking at DVD-A and SACD usage for the first time.

I note that the DV49AV has a USB input and the low profile gives me some shelf spacing advantages. I like the Pioneer receivers and now own 4 of them. So going with Pioneer is a natural for me.

Nothing wrong with the dv49av, and if the usb on the front is useful to yeah plus the lower profile, then there is no question you should own it.
Just because something goes on sale for a good price doesn't mean you should get it. If you would not pay full wood for it then it's not for you. Forget about the Denon and go where your heart it.
