Sub/Sat setup for RM 6750 Using Today's AVRs

Is the old year 2000 advice about "not" using LFE pre-out for the RM series still valid considering today's AVRs? I just purchased a new Yamaha RX-V465 and RM6750 sub/sats and I'm wondering how to proceed here.

According to the old Polk article from Spring/2000 newsletter, and many user reports I've read, wiring the L&R fronts to the sub and running them as "large", Sub/off with Center and Sur/small delivers better sound than using sub-out on the AVR with an RCA and setting everything else to small. I did a search here and it came up with many different opinions. The RM6750 is also an older model/design. And according to the manual it lists this wiring options under setup option 2. Setup option 1 is using the sub pre-out LFE connection. According to other information I read, setup option 2 is the "preferred" method and has better sound. ???

It's a little confusing. If their recommended option is setup 2 and it sounds better than setup 1 and has generally less problems than setup 1...why is it setup 2 and not setup 1? Also, should I run my yamaha YPAO setup "before" I make these changes? Or "After"??

Welcome to the forum.
The method that suits YOU best will be up to you. There is no wrong way to set up your system.
If your system is for mostly HT, then set it up w/ LFE out to sub, and speakers set to small.
If you like listening to more music, then the 'Polk way' is recommended to get better bass presence in the music.

Welcome to CP. This was my first setup, Yamaha Rxv663 and the 6750 package. I too was confused on this at first, but as obieone mentioned its whatever you prefer. I went back and forth with both options' and ultimately settled on the "Polk Way" (option 2). thought there was a little better Bass presence. But this was just my preference. Half the fun of Home Audio is experimentation.:D Good luck!

Thank you both. That helps. Do you have any advice about "when" in the sequence of things to run the Yamaha's setup program? (Ie..YAPO)

Whenever you're comfortable?
Read thru the owners manual, and get familiar with the rcvr. If you're going to set this system as HT, then get your speakers placed where you plan on KEEPING them. If you move them around, then you'll cancel out the YPAO calibration, and have to do it again.
BTW, the 'auto calibration' feature is a tool to help with setting up the system. It is NOT the answer to what YOUR ears are happy with.
I mention this, so your not saying 'I'm not happy with HT'. If your system isn't to you're liking after the YPAO, then manually adjust the speaker outputs to your approval.:)
