View Full Version : Onkyo TXSR-806 / buy/no-buy
I'm just wondering if anyone has input on the various video upconversion issues associated with this unit. I'm primarily looking to upgrade to HDMI in/outs and get some additional power as I'm currently running a older Onkyo TXSR-701 with 105 wpc. and I have a large space to fill. I don't have any gaming consoles and don't currently have blu-ray, although I'll probably add the latter within the next year.
Thanks for the input.

805s Amps are better than 806s. 805s are more popular here too. I would let TVs to handle video conversion (they r meant to do that and better at it)

I have an 806 and have not had any of the infamous blue dot issues with my unit at all. While I agree the 805 has a better amp. section than the 806, I have been nothing but pleased with my 806 in all areas of performance. I have had it since Sept. of last year and would recommend it to anyone looking for a very good receiver that is priced way below what it is worth, IMO.
P.S. I use my 806 as pass through with a PS3 being the sorurce with all HDMI cables in and out, so there is no upconversion taking place anywhere in the equation. Not sure if this is why I haven't had any issues with it or not.
I agree.
I really think this upconversion thing is becoming an overdone issue. Most of us have HDMI equipment. Who cares about upconverting inferior video. Let your TV handle that if you want. Most all HDMI 1.3 can handle any High Def signal without messing with it.
