And my L/R/C will be powered with an Amp....so whats a good choice? Direction would be great. HK sent me a new 3550HD, I think I may get rid of it and buy something else

bdtae, was this the 1st replacement for the 354 or the second? Just curious were you still having issues with the 3550? Were they the same or different than those with the 354?
Not sure of a direction to send you, did you like the sound of the HK with your speakers? What do you want to correct/better with the move?

No issues b/c the 3550 is still in the box. I went thru one new 354 then HK sent me a refurb, then a new 3550. I just bought a EMO amp along with LSI 25's. Nothings hooked up yet...before I get started I might want to leave HK and go with something different. Depending on if the other AVR'S are better for the money that I spent on the HK

Do you need hdmi switching/upconversion? Are you primarily looking for sound quality, or the latest and greatest features, such as the newer built in audio codecs?
Just trying to determine your best option.

What is switching/upconversion? Sound Q and Picture....Bottom line I want to be able to run my hdmi cables and use them for both audio and video, along with the avr helping out on the picture q

This would be a decent option to fit your budget: http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=88647
I personally like Denon a little better at this point. I've installed HK, Yamaha, Denon, and Cambridge Audio over the past few years, and I've settled on Denon as my main entry level receiver. The only problem with Denon is that you won't get preamp outputs until the 2809, which retails for around $1200. The 2309 is of similar build quality, and is hand built in Japan as well, but it lacks the outputs.

I switched from an Onkyo PR-SC885 pre-amp to a Yamaha RX-V1800, which is in your price range. Couldn't be happier, the Yamaha just works, no issues at all. And HDMI switching is instant.

functionally, I don't think there is much of a difference. The when Yamaha first went to places like Best Buy, they used HTR for models sold at those stores to cover the custom installers that were selling the traditional RX-? models. There may be slightly better guts in the RX models, but the published specs seem very similar.

"Nothing"
Not sure from there to the -Z and -N other than they seem to use that on their flagship models.
