I have asked about these subs before, but figured a poll would give the best advice for which to buy.
I really want to have a musical sub more than anything. I listen to tool, pearl jam, pantera, and pretty much anything else 90's and rock.
It would be nice if it hit low and hard for movies to though. I guess I want the most well rounded of subs.

I would either go with the SVS or a Velodyne. I listen to the same kind of music you do and I have a Velo...I love it. You get what you pay for.

If that SVS is in the same price range...I'd go with that. I also like Velodynes but I run a Boston A. (it's OK...better with music than HT)

The problem is that for what you can get the PSW505 these days it's a best buy. You could get 2 for the same price as the others?

Thier is only one brand of sub to buy, and it is VELODYNE!!!!!!. Listen these guys know, you will not be disapointed. VELODYNE makes AWSOME subs. Check out thier web site I am sure you can find one to fit your budget. How can you even do a poll and not have the BEST brand in subs listed. VELODYNE!!!!!!!, VELODYNE. EXCEPT NO OTHER!!!!!!!!!!

Or EPIK

If anyone knows of a 600$ or less velodyne or epik that would compare to the SVS, the model name and number would really help me out. Right now though it looks like the SVS is going to be in my system. It's been a landslide so far.

Sorry, but it looks like the lowest cost Epik (the sealed Vanquish) is out of your price range.

I'd chime in about Epik as I have their Valor.

You may want to also check on Elemental Designs - they have good 'net cred' for value subs in your price range.

You could check out the Elemental Design A3-300 (http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=2_41&products_id=102)

They are into using 'green' materials also. Like SVS they cut and assembled in the U.S. It's possible that some of the components are made overseas. But that is most likely the case with most.

No I do not work for VELODYNE this is my second sub made by them and they are GREAT subs. SVS I have heard makes GREAT sub also. The problem I had was thier is no place to go to demo them. I am not knockimg SVS at all. I would say buy the most BOOM!! for your money and SVS make decent , good priced subs. But if you can I would purchase a VELODYNE. Thats just one guys opinion. Good Luck with what ever you buy. But do check out Velodyne's web sit they even have a way to help you choose a Sub that will work for your needs on the site.

Another sub that has been well received is the MFW-15 from AV123 (http://www.av123.com//index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=265&category_id=9&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=37) for $699 (budgets were meant to be stretched).

I hesitate to post this though since AV123 is waiting for an updated AMP (they had some hum issues with the first AMP design). They say 4-6 weeks.

Check out the VTF-2 MK 3 (http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-2-mk3.html)from HSU Research.

$549 + $59 to ship.

Of those choices SVS is the obvious sub to take. Other alternatives at that price point are the Outlaw LFM (EX or Plus, I can't remember) or the Hsu VTF 2.3. The SVS will have more output/visceral impact than either though I think they are slightly cheaper. The ED sub, A3/300 has an improved finish and amp and will probably be just as loud as the SVS. The SVS should have a flatter response and better upper bass resolution, but that's just a guess. For $500 shipped, it's an excellent value.

Velodyne makes great subs, but they don't offer a model at $600 that can touch the ones I mentioned above. Their retail subs sound better than most of the retail competition for SQ (maybe not the new Polks), but not against the ID brands. Their dealer models are another story, but even they aren't apples to apples, being small, sealed and feature rich vs. fairly large and mostly ported.

I voted SVS, just because your choice selection is so poor 'Polk-SVS-Others'.

If you want to go with a major brand, try Velodyne. IMHO, in the mass-production consumer market their price to performance ratio is awesome, not to mention that Velo makes amazing subs. I would also look into buying HSU sub.

If you would give me a model of velodyne close to my price range I would definitely check them out.
Really I just have no way of hearing any subs, so I want all the help I can get. I want the best sub for my money. It would be nice if it sounded real too. Most subs I have heard do not sound like a kick drum whenever they play music. I really want a sub that sounds great to add to my RTi A5's.

This is just fry's but I'm sure you can find them other places as well.

2 impact 10's would be more than you would ever need.

Try velodyne.com and look them up, you will not be sorry you did.

SVS gets the vote here. I'd like to sit in a room with Dual Gothams or quad Ultras and just let them hold me hostage to extreme pressurization.

Getting to this thread a little late. Love my Velo SPL-1200R. Very musical, which is why I bought it. The piano black finish is also very cool. Matches my Samsung LCD and Lsi25s. Now that I have have the Lsi25s the Velo is a little overkill but I still love it. Two would be better but my fiance would probably leave me!

Powered Box sub, 12" Plus 12.4 woofer: A new standard in affordable large subwoofers from SVS!

Authorized Factory Direct

Full Manufacturer's Warranty

The original PB12-Plus was, and still is, one of the best subs in the world, even when compared to competitors at multiples of our factory-direct, Ohio-built offerings. This is depth, power, and quality few brands even try to match.

A tough act to follow to be sure, but the outgoing subwoofer is now replaced with a wholly new PB12-Plus, an improved design sporting even cleaner lines, impeccable quality and of course backed by our legendary service and technical support.

The new PB12-Plus is an evolutionary step up in every regard, even considering its legendary predecessor. Borrowing liberally from the phenomenally successful bigger brother, the PB13-Ultra, we've brought new tuning modes, a fresh look and once again out did the only competition we typically have. Us. Affordable audio gear usually has no business being this good.

With low gloss, high quality "seamless" polymer laminate is hand-laid over large radius corners that neatly integrate with our signature wood and gloss finishes. Cap it with our astoundingly simple and attractive magnetic grill and you have a sub that's like nothing else on the market.

That's before you switch it on. When you do you've engaged an sub that raises a bar already set high indeed. Our fourth generation "Plus" woofer and and even more refined BASH amp provide unprecedented durability, and our ability to keep up with your demand, around the world is better still too.

Available in 3 stunning finishes, the new PB12-Plus will fit into nearly any decor. Computer designed and exclusively built to our exacting specifications, hand assembled and of course tested in our factory too. It's still as much art as audio speaker.

I may be getting ready to take out a loan for an RV. We bought one last year but have had many problems with it so far, and I think they might refund our money toward another camper. If they do, I'm taking out 2 grand extra, and buying the ultra. I'm going to talk to the RV dealer tomorrow and see what they say about taking it back on a trade in.

Wish me luck. The look on my wife's face will be priceless when she sees how big the pb-13 ultra is. I'd say I will be pretty surprised too, when the sub is all I have left after she kicks me out. I hope it's big enough to block some of the wind, when I'm sleeping outside. It gets pretty cold at night still in ohio.

Forget any Polk sub. Look at SVS, HSU Research, Epik, elemental designs, AV123 MFW-15. Dont get me wrong I love Polk speakers. But there are many better choices for subs. Just my opinion.

Well, I went with SVS, but bot the pb12 NSD. I decided to go all the way, and get the ultra. My upgrade bug should be cured for awhile, at least as far as a sub goes. I should get it sometime next week, since SVS is in my home state.

I'll post back and let everyone know what I think of it. Since my current sub is the psw111, I imagine I will be blown away.
