Ok people I need your knowledge once again. Less than a month ago I bought a Cambrige Audio CD player Azur 640c Version 2 from Decibel Audio in Chicago, and today I noticed that the display was dim. I tried changing the brightness, but instead of three steps it did only two, dim and off. The display flickers from time to time, just as flourescent (I know I spelled that wrong) light bulbs do as they are dieing. Now I am going to return the player because for the money and time everything should be perfect.

My question has anyone had a similar expierience with Cambrige Audio equipment? I just want to know, because I love the sonic performance it gives me. But if they are prone to technical trouble I think I will go with another brand.

Thanks again, you help to make my life sonically better!

I've had a few pieces of CA gear, and it's all been rock-solid. My dealer did notify me that there was a potential problem with the drives in the last CA DVD 540v2 I bought, and they sent it in and it was repaired very quickly. I would give Decibel a chance to make it right.

I've been a Cambridge dealer for 3 years now, and have had very few problems with the equipment I've sold and installed. Definitely try the original dealer to see if they can help.

Thank you, thats what I thought, from the other reviews they CA always seemed to be well thought of, I just wanted the forums view. Although, a couple of hours of being off, I tried it again, and now it apears to be working fine. Any thoughts?

Don't worry. If there is a problem it will come back. Sometimes the electronic gremlins like to tease you into thinking the problem went away, but it always comes back.

My experience with Cambridge Audio has not been that great. I tried 4 units and they all failed in one way or antoher, some died completely. I know that Cambridge had a lot of growing pains when they moved production to China a few years ago. Perhaps they worked them out by now. Your call.

I'll agree with you on the 640H ;) Other than that, I can't say I've had many problems with them.

I give the 640H some slack since it is a complex machine. My opinion of them would be fine, if not for 2 of my 640C Ver,. 1 and SE500 failures also.

Had something similar happen with my 840C. Shortly after I bought mine (new), the characters in the display would fade in and out. The dimmer levels were not affected. I left mine in standby mode most of the time. Tried to turn it on after not using it for a few days and found it was totally dead. Toggling the power switch on the back didn't help. Sent it in to Audio Plus services (Canada) and they diagnosed a blown internal fuse. Got it back, it worked for a few days, then same thing happened again. They repaired it again and let it burn in for a week. No problems with it in the last six months.

Would I buy another product from them? Probably not, even though I'm happy with the performance of the player. There are other alternatives.
