Adding sub to RT1000p Mains

I currently have a pair of RT1000p speakers set up for my front main speakers. I think they have 80 watt 6" subs in each. I have them connected by speaker wire for the mains and connected by sub output for the powered sub. I have all my speakers set to small and bass set to subwoofer. I've had this set up for about 10 years and have decided that I want to add a dedicated subwoofer to the system. If I do this, will it fight with the smaller subs in the mains? The room is about 14x20 with the equipment on the 14' wall. The sub would most likely have to go in the corner, pretty close to one of the mains. How should I connect them? Maybe set fronts to large and use the gold connecters to allow the subs to get there signal from the speaker outputs and then only connect the dedicated subwoofer to the reciever's sub output? I'm looking to get more umph in my movie watching. The system is used for music, but only occasionaly and as background music.

You're on the right track - go with it.

I have the same speakers. FWIW - I them as full range for music and cross to the sub at 80Hz for HT. Works for me...

Do you have pre-outs on your receiver? If so, your best sounding bass will come from letting the amps in the RT1000's amplify the signal rather than running the signal from your speaker outs on the amp.

When adding a subwoofer to the mix, it will not fight with your mains but rather compliment them and fill in the bottom end of the spectrum that you're currently not hearing.

I have the crossover point set at 80hz on my mains and the sub set at 60hz. This is the sweet spot for my system where everything blends and the subwoofer is not boomy.

The best thing is to get a good sub and then play with it a bit until you find the sweet spot for your listening conditions.
