"Invisible" Sub - Will it work?

I'm going to build a cabinet for my AV setup and want to have the subwoofer inside it. But I don't want the sub to physically touch the cabinet.

My present plan is to build the cabinet such that it surrounds the sub but does not touch it. The sub itself will be sitting directly on the floor (actually on a wooden base that is sitting directly on the floor). Likewise the speaker grille that is on the cabinet also does not touch the sub.

I don't want to loose anything that the sub provides so does anyone have any thoughts as to why this would not work?

Oh, it will work but you will lose out on many of the frequencies and over saturate others.

Ive heard something similar to that and there was a door hiding the sub, with door closed it was very "boomy", door opened was a little better but now the sub isnt hidden......I knda like the look of my psw10's with the grills off.
