I'm been a firefox user for the past few years because IE7 was too damn slow. Updated to IE 8 for giggles.

Much faster then 7 on my Vista box.

Has anyone else tried it?

Ever since Firefox found it's way on my machines, I refuse to use anything IE... never again.

Same here. I'd dump Windows & Office too if I had to buy them again. I've converted pretty much all my family & friends (plus some customers) to Firefox and Open Office. It's amazing how fast and trouble-free everything is once you dump Microsoft, Adobe, etc.

I'll take a slightly slower Firefox over an IE with more holes in it than Bills Clinton's story concerning Monica Lewinsky!

I also use firefox and prefer it to IE but not for any specific reason. IE gets trashed the same as Bose, WHY?

Give me 3 simple/easy to understand reasons why Firefox is better besides security.

I'm seriously asking.

I tried Firefox and didn't particularly like it, so I removed it. It didn't seem to be any faster on my machine. I really like IE better...maybe just because I've used it for so long.

Speed is secondary to me to features. Firefox has addons that are actually useful for people who know what they're doing. AdBlock alone is enough to keep me from ever switching back to IE, but I have almost a dozen others installed that make my browsing life easier.

The 2 biggest for me, were that Firefox displayed my pages much faster than IE7.

I also think Firefox manages the tabs much better than IE. The IE 8 still launches new browser windows when you click links and I find that annoying.

I do like the new IE but Im a Safari man myself. I tried Chrome for a while but it was a little squirrelly at times. Safari is much faster and seems to work much smoother.

My biggest bitch with IE is that it doesnt have a spell check that works as you type. Safari, Firefox and Chrome all have this and its a deal breaker for me. I post on a lot of forums and I dont proof read - hits my brain and I type it in. The spell check's little squiggly red lines point out my typos so I dont look like a total moron. :D

Another of my biggest bitches with IE and Firefox for that matter is speed. Im using an antiquated 1.6 GHz computer until I get the money up to build a better one and IE is MUCH slower on my compy and anything with flash video is painfully slow. This website is my benchmark. On IE and Firefox the video of the dude walking out and talking is so choppy and broken that its almost unwatchable. Chrome is a lot smoother and Safari smoother still.

I found this little review on browser speed the other day that proved that my amateur benchmark was right.

I'm seriously asking.

1. Add-ons
2. Tab Management (new window or not)
3. Spell Checker
4. IE Forces security to at least medium instead of letting me choose
5. Firefox has full screen bookmark management and lets you add tags to
bookmarks for faster searching.
6. IE7 rearranged the menu bars over IE6 (and IE6 did it over IE4/5) and
button locations. I haven't played with IE8 but I'm willing to bet it
rearranged everything again.
7. Print Preview is much better in Firefox
8. Password Tracking By Site
9. Constant IE updates (at least weekly) to close holes (not a comforting
sign, to be sure).
10. Firefox can remember and fill in forms data
11. Application management (what programs are used for opening different
file types). IE forces you to use the Windows association defaults.

IE8 is a piece of junk with such loop holes and problems with virus i had to un install and go back to 7 and mostly use FF and only if i have issue of video stream with FF i use IE7, on top of this MS forces the new pc and laptops with pre loaded OS, i just hate vista did i have any options i was forced to buy with S/W pre loaded does it not account for monopoly, i wish i had xp much better than vista, my laptop config is Hp, 3gb Ram, 250hdd, model 6775us, I just hate MS products but do i have a choice.....

Same here. My mouse wouldn't work right sometimes, pages would freeze. I didn't see any increase in speed.
