My Hafler DH-200/Hitachi 6500 preamp combo could use a bit of a makeover, and I have an opportunity to pick up a Carver 900 receiver at a steal. Any thoughts on how the Carver would stack up to my current setup? Thanks,
Mike

Carver electronics to me are cheaply built and do not hold up well. I had a complete Carver system, CT-17 tuner- preamp, TFM-35 power amp and AL-III+ ribbons speakers and they all had problems within a year... YMMV....

Some here don't like Carver stuff and others (like myself) very much like Carver gear. If you can get the receiver for a good price I say go for it. I am using a Carver HR-772 in my bedroom rig and am very pleased. I have a Hafler DH-220 and I like the sound of the Carver receiver better than the Hafler with my Carver C-1 pre-amp. I also use a Carver CT-Seven in my main rig and was using it with a Carver TFM-25 until it blew an output tranistor and took some other stuff with it. Turns out previous inferior repairs had led to the flame out. Now I'm using a Kenwood KA-9100 and the CT-Seven for main rig duties. I say go for it.

I have a 900 that is still running strong. Great receiver. You will love it. Used in kids room.

Carver C-2 pre and an m200t amp on my Monitor 10B's. No complaints here.

I have had Carver equipment for over a year now and love the sound. I have heard a 900 and it does very well IMO. I would say go for it.
