What's the poop on the LCD TV's coming out? Flash in the pan or the next best thing since sliced bread.
I've been eyeballing a couple.
Thoughts?
Correction: LED TV's

What's the difference? Or is it LCD with a kick?

No, they use LEDs instead of a fluoresent lamp as the backlight that LCD TVs require. Super thin and very long life.

The new Samsug LED's look great.
Looks like Samsung is taking over.
They make all kinds of great TV's!
Plasma, LCD, LED, RPTV...does any other manufacturer still produce all types like Samsung does?

I not sure myself. Lee..hillbilly... offerd up the difference of the backlighting between LCD and LED/LCD.
My question is, has anybody seen a noticeable PQ step up on these slim sumbitches.

Sorry watching New country for old men. I am getting my blood on. I do like Plasma still for vivid colors, but LCDs behave beter in high light conditions.

I love my 50" Panasonic plasma. I don't have too much extra light and I think that the plasma is the best way to go. I've seen the LED's and they are very nice, but it's WAY more than I paid for my very nice lower end plasma.

I was really torn between either for the longest of time. Blacker than really black (and all the in between white to black) plasma or better high light capability LCD. I live in a house that is >30% windows as far far as wall and ceiling space is concerned. Went LCD after considering all.
I could have easily gone Plasma route for the same $ if I lived in a "windowless cave" as you state Lightman. Like Ben implies, I think it has better colors, better blacker than blacks, etc, but I also think it washes out too easily in brighter light. So, I chose the former.
Hillbilly
... I live in a house that is >30% windows as far far as wall and ceiling space is concerned. ...How can you fit a big screen in that house of yours? Wasn't that the picture posted in reference to West "By God" Virginia? With the tire on the "front lawn"? If so, you forgot to mention that the windows don't have any glass in them! Is the electricity "gas" powered?
For the sake of clarity, I should post a linky to the pic, but I'm too lazy to hunt it down ...
Edit: Guilty conscience got the better of me ...

Yes, it was. Busted. :( I needed both seats at once, but a condition (asymmetrical ass development) caused me to shift to the right one day and the whole dam house shited. It hasn't been right since....

..and the creek behind it was deemed a superfund clean up site after that....
Still toxic to this day.
I live in a windowless cave....
I can identify with that and if it's true, I'm with Ben...get a good Panasonic Plasma...they're easily as cheap as an LCD. And, yeah truer color, better blacks, contrast...etc. LEDs getting there, but they cost more!
We were trying to rent our house out for a bit in the coming year and had one of our colleagues over....his comment...isn't it a bit 'dark' in here? Me, What do you mean dark....I'm a bit Vampiric, you see! The sun! the sun! Oh the sun!

It's true, C.
I've been looking at the Panny plasmas and LCD's. Its just the LED/LCDs caught my eye.
Pennsylvania looking good for you?
Russ
LED and OLED seem to be tomorrow's technology. I'm using LCD right now, and it sure does get the job done (even at 60Hz) but I have no idea what I'm missing when compared to plasma for the same price. Opinions from a dude like our own Conradicles cannot lightly be tossed aside, lest ye miss out on all the fun.

Pa. might be possible, have to call my sister and find out what week in the first half of June is best for her to come down to the house and have a look-see and decide what we want to keep, sell or give away! Will know soon!

Eric has 14 kids and couldn't find his asshole with a flashlight and a funnnel....Well, if he has 14 kids, he certainly found something at some point ... with, or without a flashlight!
Sorry Eric, I hope you don't mind this lack of decorum!

I thrive on lack of decorum.
I thrive on lack of decorum. You don't honestly think that I hadn't noticed, now do you?! It's quite refreshing, in a funny kind of way, IMO, but I am completely nuts, after all ... so that should not come as a huge surprise, by any means.

Plasmas are a great deal right now.. easily the lowest of all types of TV's. Esp if you're only looking to go 720p, you can almost walk out the door with one for well under $800, depending on the size of screen.
Russ, what size screen are you thinking of?
40" was what I needed for my small TV room. Any larger and it would have been to much.. if that's possible.
i can't imagine having a 65" screen, ever. 50" would be huge to me.. ;)

48" to 52" Maybe up to around 60"(?) I have a nice sized living room, fortunately.
I do like the 1080p format, though. Just wanting to move up from the 50" DLP I have now. How's your new TV working for ya?
Hillbilly61
05-20-2009, 01:38 AM
To confess, I am caught up into 1080P and have bought accordingly w/my 42 inch LCD unit. 'Am real happy with it! :D However, the resolution clarity improvement fades real quickly if back 8 ft or so. A 720p unit would have worked just as well.
I think color reproduction is where the real deal is. Especially, shadows, etc. (black and greys are colors too). Backlighting evenness is very important too.
