Congrats Al. I bought a new 40" Sammy last year. I chose it over the Sony and Sharp LCD's. I think the Samsungs have the best for the buck. You made a good choice. Now sit back and enjoy. :)

Congrats Al! three years ago I bought a Sony 40" LCD KDL40V2500, and at that time, Contrast Ratio was 7000:1. Yours 80000? Whoa, I am impressed. Can't imagine how much more vivid is that.

Nice. I'm mounting a LN32B360 this afternoon on the bedroom wall (scavenged TSi100s and a CS400i will make it sing with a Yamaha receiver I got on the cheap). The contrast ratio was also one of the key selling points for me.

Cool. I have 2 Sammy LCDs. They are nice sets. I had a clouding issue with the latest though but BB replaced it. Just look out for that.

Hi, just so you guys know, comparing contrast ratio's between different brands is meaningless because every brand gets their ratings differently. So a ratio of 80000:1 on a Samsung could be exactly the same as 10000;1 on a Sony.
Nice set Danger Boy.
I steered my son toward the previous model...when he moved to Boston. He loves it, and so do "I" when I visit him. New set even 'better'. He got his on a great deal with a PS3 bundle. Remember telling him...'Hey, I don't care if you're an XBOX man, for 150 dollars more bundled you get a dedicated Blu-ray with a hard drive in it. Even if you never game on it you'll use it with the Samsung. I was right!
Samsung does LCDs right some of the best on the market.
Enjoy.

Have 3 Samsungs and really enjoy them. Was a die-hard Sony fan, but the better specs for the Samsungs sold me. Congrats!

i have heard that more than once.. so to be fair in comparing contrast ratio's. you really need to stay within the same brand..

Well after a few days with the new Sammy LCD.. I am very pleased with it except on thing.. I have OTA digital local channels coming into the set via coax. and every 30 seconds or so the digital audio drops out for 3 or 4 seconds.
The signal meter is maxed out.. so I know the signal is strong. I will call Samsung and see what they have to say. Otherwise.. the picture looks incredible. Everything looks live. I can't seem to be able to find out when it goes into 120Hz refresh rate though.. it always says 60Hz.

You have to manually go into the menu setting and turn the 120 hz option on or off. They also have the option of Low, medium ,and high. The only time I use the 120hz mode on is when watching sports because you don't get the hanycam shaking effect.

When i bought my last Samsung i ask the guy about contrast ratio, he said the CR is crap don't worry about it. I got the 58" plasma 650 series T of C, and it says it has a CR of 1,000,000 I would like to know if the CR is really nothing but a marketing game.

BTW, if anybody out there has the 3-digit remote code for the Samsung LCD, I'd love to know what it is, so I can drive the TV with my Pioneer AVR remote. Couldn't find the info anywhere. Tried 088 and 143, no luck.

Well, all is not well in new TV land.
I think the new Samsung LCD i just bought is a lemon. I am having a couple of problems over and over again that shouldn't be happening.
First is the audio cuts in and out on the TV.. no matter what the sources is. Whether I use HDMI, or coax cable or optical audio. The audio will studder every 10 mins or so.. or go silent every 2 to 3 minutes.. no matter if I watch a DVD or OTA digital tv.
Secondly... the TV reboots itself at any time for no reason.. I'd say every 30 to 6o minutes. Reboot. Reboot, REBOOT! WTF?
For some odd reason there is almost zero info on this model on the Sumsung website. LN40B640 (check if you don't believe me).
So i'll call BB up and see if they'll swap for another of the same model.. I'm sure it shouldn't be a problem. If the next one has the same audio problems then I will go another model or another brand. Sucks.

Took the defective Sammy back to BB this morn.. got a new one.. some make and model of Sammy.. and so far all is good. No audio problems.. and no reboot problems either. so as of now.. things are back up and looking good. even watching golf was fun.. (not a golfer, and don't watch it on TV) ;) :p
