I mean I hear the 400 disc changers offer garbage quality....but are there any good 5 disc?

Onkyo and Denon make a couple of good multi-disc changers. I own one of the Onkyo's and it seems rock solid and has pretty good SQ. Marantz has some disc changers, however I don't have any experience with them.

I just got a five disk Sony ES changer off good ol' e-bay.
Model # SCD-C333ES. Here is a link to the Stereophile review:

The build quality is amazing and sounds great to me!

There was a Marantz that was getting some love recently too. A special closeout deal, IIRC. I'm not sure if it's still available, but I'll see if I can dig it up.

The Sony players SCD-333ES and SCD-555ES are pretty good!

I have a California Audio Labs CL-10, I like the sound and the ability to have five disks loaded at the same time.

That's actually $50 less than the same product refurbished from amazon.com!

The Rotel RCC-1055. I've heard this CD changer on several occasions. I keep telling myself that I need to get one while they are still being made. I think is is every bit as good as the RCD-1072 that many think is an excellent single disc CDP.

I'd go for some type of server if it were, 5 discs isn't enough. But there is still a nice Sony available new:

Sony is a nice unit at a nice price. Even my cheapo DVD/CD Sony changer sounds OK on CDs when its run directly into a Class D Receiver amp--toslink...surprisingly so--not sure why because it's not as good on a regular AVR.

+1 for the Marantz CC40001. Very solid player, with great sound.

I have two Sony changers. One is 200 cds and the other is 400 DVDs. They both sound very good with a DAC. The only issue is when cranking to very very high DBs. The changers don't seem to hold up well to vibration.

BenI don't believe it! That is so very à propos: Ben plays his music soooo loud that it even vibrates the discs out of their trays!

Ben, has anyone ever told you that you might very well be a unique individual?!

I haven't even met you, and I like you already!

My therapists says I am doing much better. My new SDA's only reach 120db peaks. 118 clean. I am progressing. You are more than welcome to come over. Some guests sleep with a weapon under their pillow:confused:

Ben, I think I finally know why you can't always find all the eggs ...

P.S. the trip from SoCal would be a long one, and we SoCalers are kinda wierd too, in our own way: it's the pollution ya know ... it does things to our brains.

I am running the Denon DCM-390 and love it. It sounds great, especially with HDCDs.

Want to thank everyone for chiming in....great suggestions.

I think I am going to bite on the Marantz because the price is right.

I've decided to stop effing around and I am going to pick up a solid clean amp.
I'll post another thread on that tho.

Ben I play LOUD LOUD LOUD as well...and was an avid fan of those 400 disc changers until ppl told me the quality wasn't that good....would u recommend your setup? with the DAC's? how much are decent DAC's typically?
The 400 discs are very convenient my brother has one and it's just great to be able to pick a CD out of his rolodex and hit play. I'm only running 2 Monitor 10s with upgraded XO's....not sure if I can get as loud as you may be getting with your SDA's. Altho the amp I pick I'm hoping can drive them to new loud levels not seen before :)

If you guys see this as an opportunity to suggest a great combo pleez post more...I run a Sony receiver/amp STR DE345 it works and all that but occasionally pops my fuses. I've been told its probably not holding up well when cranked hard....so I'd like to get rid of it or somehow use it as a pre-amp if I can...if that's not a dumb idea.

Doroku your selling the Sony555? ("400<used")

Please help on the amp thread I don't know as much as you guys and don't want to regret my buy later. Ben definitely want to hear your final say on the 400 disc'ers cuz it is a major convenience.

I've been a happy user of the Sony C333ES for about 3 years now. Its been a great unit with great sound quality on SACD. Not bad on Redbook either.

I've also been happy with an old Marantz CC4000 that I've been using for over 7 years now. The mechanism in the Marantz is the best 5 disc changer that I've ever seen. Very robust, fast, and quiet. The optical pickup is bullet proof as well. Sound quality is so-so, but just a a nice DAC any you'll be all set.

I use a Sony 300 changer with an Entech Numbercruncher, and i love the way it sounds....

I WILL say that the analog outputs on the Sony sound like utter rubbish, though.

I've been using a Yamaha cdc 697 for about a year and like it. No idea how it compares to other stuff mentioned on this page.

Crutchfield reviewers seem to like it (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-VjDYwiTzeZj/p_022CDC697/Yamaha-CDC-697.html), although the first guy seems to be under the impression it's a DVD player.
