Rti A7 without amp?

Hello,

I'm kind of new to speakers, receivers, amps, etc.. still keep researching and learning.:D

The question is that I just got a pair of RTi A7 speakers this week and I was wondering whether I should get an amp for those speakers. I have H/K avr 354 and i'm not sure if the receiver can handle A7s without an amp. I'm worried that I would be abusing the receiver by running speakers straight to receiver w/o amp between them.

You'll be alright running them off of the receiver. The RTi's are pretty efficient speakers, plus have an 8 ohm nominal impedance, so they're fairly easy to drive.

An external amp would definitely help to open them up a lot more and make them sing like they're supposed to though! There are plenty of low cost options out there, such as Adcom, Rotel and Parasound, especially if you don't mind buying used.

thank you for your reply, I'll look up the amps u suggested. I don't mind using used one as long as it is clean and in perfect working condition.

This Sony amp looks fine but I don't know its performance.

I think I'll just go with the receiver for a while until I found a decent one. Also need to fill up my wallet between the time, it's pretty thin right now. :D

I don't know that Sony amp myself. It is an ES series which is their best....and you could run it with the H/K AVR 354 as a pre-amp/processor. You'd need to see what that amp is capable of, it's a 5 channel that looks like it has a switch for going from 8 to 4 ohm speakers? That usually means that it can't really handle 4 ohms at full power. But since your RTIs are 8 ohm that's not a concern. I'd listen to some ES amps and see what you think of them...Not sure if 400 is a good price for a 5 channel Sony or not.

The Receiver will work for now,but an Amp will bring out the best
in the A7 speakers-Congrats:D
