Klipsch sold the 2 brands to 2 former employees....

Klipsch announced last week that it has sold two of its brands, Aragon and Acurus, to a pair of former Klipsch employees. The brands of amplifiers and processors, which were acquired by Klipsch eight years ago from Mondial Designs Ltd., were closed in 2005.

Rick Santiago and Ted Moore, electronics engineers formerly employed by Klipsch, are the new owners, through their company Indy Audio Labs.

“Rick and Ted are extremely passionate individuals and have a very forward-looking vision for these two highly regarded electronics brands. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Aragon and Acurus,” Klipsch President Mike Klipsch said as part of the announcement.

Yep, I use to have an Aragon 24k pre-amp and 2004MK amp.

I am selling an Aragon 4004 MkII in excellent physical and electronic condition - in the original box with the original (minimal) manual. It was used with an Audio Research SP9 MkIII in an awesome pairing; that unit too is for sale. If interested in either, please drop me a note here or at fredrbis@juno.com. Thanks.

Those older amps are no doubt still kicking ass today. Good stuff from Aragon in particular.

I have an Aragon 4004 MKII amp. Not sure how old it is, but it is Mondial, not Klipsch.

I hope these new owners of the Aragon and Acurus brands produce some pres and amps that are on a par with the quality/price value of the old Mondial stuff.

I wonder if assembly will be in the Far East.

Mike21:

If I have mis-stepped, please excuse me. I do not see a link to or button for a "for sale" section on my screens. How do I get there from here? I see listings indicating the functionality is there, but have not found the path. Thanks.

I've never liked the pre-amps but the amplifiers were very solid.

Do you remember the Aragon and Acurus brands from the past? If you don't, you're forgiven. If you do, you're at least as old as we are. The brands were originally owned by Mondial Designs Ltd. and were bought by Klipsch in 2001. In the '80s and '90s, their products became well known for being good sounding, moderately priced and well built. Indy Audio Labs, a company made up of former Klipsch engineers, acquired Aragon and Acurus from the Klipsch Group earlier this year and now service all Aragon and Acurus product models. According to their representative at CEDIA, they are currently assessing the market demand and determining if they will bring new designs out.

Glad to see these brands coming back. I hope the new products can live up to the reputation set by the pre-Klipsch lineup. I have a nice set of older Acurus gear (RL-11 and A250) sitting in a closet waiting for the day that I have the space for a dedicated 2-channel system again.

That preamp reminds me of the audioble illusions.

I'm using the RL11/A-250 combo with my 3.1's and I love it. Probably the most neutral sounding equipment I've used. I would like to move up to Aragon series pres/amps in the future. I'm in no big hurry as my current combo offers incredible dynamics and smoothness.
Really glad so see the brand returning. As others have stated, hope it lives up to it's heritage.

Interesting...I recently got an Acurus L10. I'm still kind of on the fence about it...it has some qualities that I really like, such as a very detailed high end...the lows could really use a bit of kick though. The bass seems kind of withdrawn, and lackluster.

It is a very well built piece though, especially for it's price range.

It'd be cool to see them start producing products again.

Promising looking news, but in today's audio and CE market in general I would be surprised to see anything new for some time. But it does keep support going for current owners which is a good thing.
