There's a seller on Videogon advertising a new Pio SC-07 for $899.99. Does anyone know who I'm talking about and is he a trusted source? The price is awesome if it's new and the real deal.

No prices on the website. Can someone link to that store's A-gon profile? Looks like that 899 receiver is long gone.

The only thing I don't like about the sc-07 is the hissing starting at
about -20db

If your running an external amp you will not hear the hiss, I'm using the receivers internal power. It's not a big problem but I'm just use to my rig being dead quiet. Every system is going to create some kind of hiss. Some are just louder than others.

Never once had this problem. Check your sources and ground of your cable/Dss. I bet your problem lies there.

Ok I did a test... I turned the sat off and turned the volume to +12 and no hiss. not a SSSS to be heard. Then I turned the sat on and muted the audio on the sat and I got a hiss sound at 5 Inches from my speakers.
Sitting 2-3 feet from my speakers at odb I could not hear the hissing
ok at +12 I can hear the hissing but i will NEVER play them this loud my ears couldn't take it.
Leroyjr1 I think something is wrong or set up wrong if you are hearing it at -20db.:(
try my technique to see if the hiss is from a particular source.
P.s. I did it with the PS3 and i had the same results.

Same results here just noting it's louder than my Onkyo and Rotel combo was.The volume has to be up pretty loud and I never run it that loud. Actually the hiss starts at about -10db and thats a couple feet away

Do they have the SC-07's at that price all the time, or is it a limited time deal? That's a killer price on that AVR.
I'm planning on upgrading to an SC-07 eventually, but that won't be until sometime next year. It'd be great if they still had them at that price when I'm ready to pick one up.

Ifyou want dead quite the Denon's are shocking not a peep. note: i did this test 2 years ago and i remember a reviewer stating this some time ago. I am not sure about now.

Hey guys, I have a Pioneer VSX-0094TXH. Is there any advantage to upgrading to a SC-07? Spec's look pretty much the same.
is it true that it does not do video scaling??
renowilliams
05-24-2009, 12:10 PM
My understanding is that it does deinterlacing and scaling of incomming analog signals (720 P and 1080i) up to 1080p but for incomming HDMI it just does passthough. I guess they figure you will already have 1080i or 1080 p from hdmi souces anyway.
not sure I get exactly what the advantage of pass through is but usually a reciever will have a better scaler than the source

If any of you will decide to upgrade, let me know ;)
I am currently looking for VSX-92TXH, 94TXH, 01TXH, 1018AH or 9130TXH.

01, 9130 and 1018 are pretty much the same receiver (some will argue that adding 12V trigger, THX sticker and Elite sticker is worth extra couple hundred bucks).

You forgot the ICE amp. I have not owned any of these but I am pretty sure the 1018 does not belong in this group, can't say about the 01 and 9130. The 1018 is a great AVR at its price and intended market, but I think it's an apple to oranges thing comparing it to the Elites.

ICE amp is only used in SC 05 and SC 07 from Pioneer line-up and quite frankly I cannot afford it at this point in time. 01 and 03 use "regular" class A/B amplifiers.
If you do the research, you will see that 1018, 01 and 9130 are the same receiver +/- some small features, but the internals, front panels, rear panels, including the Class A/B amp are exactly the same.

Sorry even though you quoted reno I read it as though it pertained to the whole thread "Pio SC-07 Best Price" and mufsoman's question as to "I have a Pioneer VSX-0094TXH. Is there any advantage to upgrading to a SC-07?"
I think the 01 used Wolfson WM8728 DAC and since the DAC used in the 1018 is not listed I am assuming (I know bad thing to do) it was using a cheaper one. I guess I would need to listen to a 1018 beside a THX Select2 01 Elite before I could compare the sound, regardless of what is in them.

I finally decided to get 03 :). It's 499 USD in the Michigan store, which is the closest one to Toronto. Would make about 735 CDN after shipping and taxes, all included.

I'm sure you'll be happy with either of those recievers. I am definatley happy with my Pioneer regardless of not having ICE amps.
