I have decided that i am going to go ahead and build my own subwoofer.
I figure with a good back round in car installation that home cant be much more difficult.

I have been looking at some sub-woofers on parts express, and was wondering if anyone has had any good or bad experiences with them.
PLAN:
this sub

this amp

as well as a 12" sub with another one of those amps all in one box.

So it would be a 10" and 12" and 2 plate amps in one big box. The subs would be in their own enclosers though.

I figure this would give me the big low end of the 12", and the punchy quick tight response of a 10" all in one.

ANY SUGGESTIONS, or please rip me if you think i am carzy i am trying to accomplish something similar to this:

The Titanic Mk III Subwoofers have a great reputation. Don't have any idea how two in one box would work.

Have you looked at Parts Express subwoofer kits with the Titanic Mk III, couple maybe?

yah i checked those out. I need something fun to do, you know hands on. i am very interested to see how the setup i was decribing would work. I know there are a lot of DIYers out there, so i figured someone must have tried it out.

The sepakers and amp i am unsure of the most. There will be no issues with the construction of the enclosure.

Nothing but positive experience here!

I've got two Titanic III 10"er's that I bought in kit form, in my HT. I had a problem with both amps that was handled under warranty quickly and courteously, free of charge. You can't beat that. I would recommend waiting a bit to see if you can snag the kit you want at a sale price, though. Not that their regular prices are out of line, but they do run some good sales.

I have been checking around on other fourms and have heard good things. I have noticed that the dayton amps are the way to go over the bash amps? Is there a noticable difference in overall quality?

Just a FWIW - I chose the Dayton amp over the Bash for the 30hz Xover vs. 40hz.

Their service and customer support is very good. I am glad that they exist; they're one of a handful of excellent resources for hifi DIY (not just speakers).

The PE forum might be a good place to get some opinions from a bunch of DIY speaker builders. I've gotten some good advice there from time to time.:)

I would say go with the Dayton amp as well. I've heard bad things about the BASH plate amps, but I don't remember where. Dayton has a pretty good reputation for bang for the buck. You might want to check Madisound as well for woofers. They carry alot of brands that PE doesn't. You might see something that you like better. Just my 2 cents. Happy building!:)

I have had problems with BASH amps over the long run. The Dayton's seem to have better parts. I went with a Dayton 500w plate amp, and I had the 15" Titanic's already. If I were to do it again I would go with the Dayton HF series subs. The Titanic's are great for HT and take abuse, but I am more into music.

I have the 10" Titanic Mk 2 paired with LSi9's and could not be happier with the synergy.

Titanics are heavy duty subs, no doubt. I don't know much about Dayton amps other than heresay...but nothing bad there. I do have a sub with a BASH amp and haven't had any problems with that for at least 2 years....but that's within the warranty period...we'll see how things hold up! BTW didn't the Polk PSW505 use a BASH?

FWIW, PE was selling some BASH plate amps at one time... dunno if they were a 'special purchase', closeout, or maybe they still do.

I don't know much about subwoofer amps (or subwoofers for that matter). I did get one of their inexpensive special purchase "Dr. Hsu-designed" subwoofers (Atlantic Technology branded) for Christmas (Mrs. H will occasionally feed my addictions). It certainly woofs.

The only plate amps I've had issues with were made by Kiega.

If you are trying to replicate the Fathom, try the woofers from Audiopulse (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=293-620). I have seen a number of Fathom clones using their woofers and they look like a pretty sweet product. BTW - Audiopulse was started by one of the founders who left TC Sounds.
