I have a line on both sets of speakers, but alas can only choose one of them. The original SRS monsters or the 2.3tl's is my dilema. I like the fact the srs's are 4 ohm designs vs the 8ohm for the tl's and I have a history with the 1.2tl's... If you had to pick one or the other, which would you choose and why. These will be the last pair of SDA's I will get for the rest of my life(wife says any more and she will hasten my demise:confused:) So guys, help me choose:)

Original SRS Monsters would get my vote.

2.3tl's all day. IMHO
But you should already know this NJ.

It really comes down to what you want.
Me I would go after the 2.3tl's if you don't want them hook me up.LOL

If these are your last pair then I'd go with the big boys. If you go with the 2.3tl's you'll always wonder about the 1.2's. Both are great but it also depends on your room size and how much you're willing to spend on a good amp.

Go big or go home?

Who has the 2.3tl's for sale with brand new end caps, new grill cloth in great condition?:D

I fail to see why the ohm rating would influence you one way or the other, but for the record the 2.3TL's are 6 ohm nominal. They also have better built cabinets, an improved crossover, can use the better RD0198-1 tweeters and with the AI-1, you can run any amp(s) you please. Not to mention that they sound better, IMO.

+1 with F1 NJ

I have had my ears on both, And I would take the 2.3tl's hands down.

2.3 TLs for all the reasons quoted above. I owned the original SRSs and they don't hold a candle to the 2.3TLs. Now if you are talking 1.2TLs well then I would go with them.

I own two pairs of the big boys and one pair of the 2.3s. I personally like the big boys a little bit better in a big room. You really can't go wrong with either one. I use the big boys in a 5.1 MUSIC system and the 2.3s in a dedicated 2 channel system. Life is tough. Oh well.
good luck, Phil

Does anyone want to throw out what a person should be looking at price wise on these? I know that the Polksda.com listing is a start, but has anyone bought sets lately/recently and what is the going rate?
I only ask because a set of 2.3's siren song is calling to me as well.
NJ good luck, and I don't think you will have regrets either way.
Happy Trails,
Nathan

I can't comment of the 2.3's because I never heard them but I have a set of SDA SRS speakers. I love the big boys in a big room. My set is all original. Set them apart as far as you can. These speakers have a great soundstage. Also have a handtruck ready because at a 180 lbs apiece they are a handfull. Your going to need two guys to bring them up stairs. I have SDA SRS 2's which are similar to 2.3's and they are much more managable. Just some things to consider. I have to agree with everyone else, you can't go wrong with either. Good luck.

thanks to all for the input... I have decided to go with the 2.3tl's... when would be a good time to get together, Leroy?

They're not really close and the 2.3TL's are in a different league.

I meant similar in size.

I meant similar in size.

Ah, gotcha.

The SDA SRS 2's are 6 inches taller than the 1C's. The 2.3/2.3TL are 5 inches taller than the SDA SRS 2's and the SDA SRS/1.2/1.2TL's are 8.5 inches taller than the 2.3/2.3TL's.

Is there such a thing as non-TL version of the SRS 2.3? Or are all 2.3 models the TL?

There are 2.3 and 2.3TLs. The 2.3s don't have the tri-laminant tweeters.

Is it possible to tell by looking at them? And if they're not TL's, can the TL upgrade be done? Add the 5.8uF cap, and use RD-0198's?

I cannot comment very well on the SRS vs. 2.3's as I have not heard them side by side. I have heard 1.2tl's vs SRS's and even with the annoying SL2000 tweeter, I preferred the sound of the SRS's. (I would update the tweeter to RDO's though)

I may be in the minority here - but I really like the SRS's alot.

You might be, but I agree. I have original srs and sold the 1.2tls, the original srs bass is better. I still have the original srs unmodded, never felt the need, and a set of 2.3tls with rdo98s, at the end of the day the 2.3s might sound better, more balanced but will never match the bass output.

After upgrading my crossovers w/Sonic Cap & Mills resistors in my 1.2TLs the bass sounds and feels like there is a subwoofer in the room.
