Bomb squad. Iraq. Gripping, suspenseful, intense. Tastefully done. No political messages.
If you get a chance to see this one, do it. Released in Italy with limited release in the U.S. I will definitely pickup the Blu-ray whenever it comes out.
Jeremy Renner should at the very least get an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Fantastic performance.
Highly recommended.

I agree. This is the best movie I have seen all year. So intense, and very well done.

Ok I just got done watching this last night. FINALLY an Iraq film with no "message" behind it. Great dialogue, intense scenes. Jeremy Renner did an outstanding job in the lead role.
I would say from a military standpoint there were some huge inaccuracies of how the military conducts certain situations. (Like troops completely abandoning a running humvee to go hide) But that should not hinder anyone from seeing this film.
Solid 8.5 from me.

VERY LONG WAIT from Netflix. Dammit! I had it arranged so that I sent a movie back and it was received the day H-L was released, and I had H-L on the top of my queue. I was hoping to get it first round, but they gave me my 2nd queue choice. Grrr. Oh well, maybe I'll just buy it...

I just returned my copy of The Hurt Locker to NetFlix. I hope you get it. The story was exceptional. IMO first great war film of my generation. The sound from high to LFE was thoroughly engaging and never done just to be extreme.

Watched it on bluray last night. It was a good movie.
I saw this movie in the Theatres, I had to really push my gf to see it as I knew it would likely be something special. It was. Not a movie I would care to view again as it's not an enjoyable experience. But it is intense to the point that I think people should see it.

Blind buy on Bluray last night. Excellent movie! should get a couple of Oscars, I think. Rotten tomatoes pegged it at 97%. I don't normally agree with RT but on this one, they are right on.

I had to turn my MFW-15 waaaayyy down to like 7 o'clock to watch this movie. There were a few explosion scenes that would've have me arrested for public disturbance.
The movie itself was very good, but no, not earth shattering or anything.

Watched this last night... started out good.. then went downhill from there. ending was lame. OMG predictable ending. should have ended the movie 10 minutes earlier. that's all i'm going to say..
I had heard such good things about this movie recently.. so I was hoping for more.. something better... the movie delivered on that level, then it turned all Hollywood and I was done with it by then.

I'm still waiting to see this one, and heard pro and con on this movie. The con part was from some who actually served in the military and said alot of it was bs and like you said, turned Hollywood. I guess I just need to see it myself and decide.

I watched it Saturday and must admit that I didn't think much of it. I would say that I usually want to watch a movie a couple of times to pick up nuances but I am not interested in it enough to see it again. I would give it 2 of 5 stars. In my world Blackhawk Down, Saving Private Ryan and We Were Soldiers were solid 4 stars. Platoon and FMJ are 5's and I like Band Of Brothers in there somewhere.
I was never able to get into the characters or the plot (?). I also am not a big fan of the handheld in your face jittery camera work.
I will not see it again but will also say you should see it and form your own opinion. It does cover a subject matter which has never been done before and to that end letting us know the extraordinarily tough job this unit does is worthy of mention.

Watched it last night on BR. Great picture and sound, as we expect from BR. I enjoyed it from the sense of showing how to some war can be a drug, and they crave more and more, regardless of the consequences. For whatever reason, the mind rationalizes away the negative aspect of drug use, and only focuses on the pleasure. I also liked the metaphor of how one person's drug use has the potential to harm those around that person.
However, I had a hard time believing the fire extinguisher scene, where a little hand held fire extinguisher could put out a flaming car from an exploding gas tank.

Interesting perspective, from that viewpoint the movie does become a little more appealing. I must admit that the idea of an adrenaline war junky becomes a more driving issue, maybe I need to look at it again....

I think what makes this movie an Oscar candidate is the diary like aspect it conveys to the audience. Tenures of regular folk getting on in a day to day fashion like we all do when in a group with moments of sheer terror or suspense that comes with war that soldiers in a combat assignment experience. Complete with poor decisions that lead to bad outcomes.

Problem is a lot of military folks were vocal in their distaste about this movie...which probably means it will win.

I have to say I was slightly surprised by some of the negativity. I have a good friend of mine who served 3 tours in Iraq, saw a lot of action there, and loved this movie. But people always have differing views, military background or not.
I enjoyed this quite a bit, even though the part with them going off by themselves was not believable. Great use of audio to bring impressive ambiance to draw you in.

I liked the Hurt Locker a lot. It was played like a real military unit in Iraq that specialized in doing very dangerous things. Boredom during the in between of their main work, interactions with others and then the sheer terror of war.
Oscar wise, IMHO, it came out too early. Cameron timed his movie release late in the year, typical for many Oscar wannabes that have a real chance of making it, but do not dare the test of time (several months).

I'm not the biggest advocate of this movie, but it was definitely better than Avatar on a strict screenwriting level. As amazing as Avatar was as an experience, the writing is weak and the plot is basically Pocahontas or Dances With Wolves. The technology is revolutionary, but movies are about more than that. I'm glad The Hurt Locker took the Oscar (though I still say that UP was the best movie this year).

Eh, decent movie. All the little anachronisms bugged the crap out of me though... wrong camo type, youtube/xbox 360 timing issues, showing single humvees leaving the wire...
They earned the sound editing / mixing though for sure.

Avatar won in the sense of business that's for sure. I bet you most studio executives would take "Highest grossing movie of all time" over "Best Picture Winner" although I thought Avatar was terrific. That being said, I do want to see Hurt Locker now so I can determine if Avatar got ripped off by the politics.

I have not seen it and do not know how realistic it was supposed to be. I do, however, have lots of friends and family in the military, and those who have seen it all says it's mostly BS, both from an individual perspective and with people leaving in vehicles on their own...
