Recommendations on Blu Ray titles

I receive my Pioneer Elite 7.1 receiver tomorrow and rumor has it the wife has ordered the Oppo BDP-83 as a wedding anniversary/Father's Day present for me.:D

This will be my first experience with Blu Ray and 7.1. I'm looking for recommendations of some Blu Ray titles to put on my Blockbuster online list that have excellent surround soundtracks and will let me have an awesome first test drive experience.

The U-571 thread had some good ideas....U-571, Master and Commander, Jurassic Park DTS (corrected ed.). Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'd suggest Elton John 60 for music.. picture and audio quality is very good. So is Jeff Beck at Live at Ronnies.

The remastered version of "5th Element" is another one I'd recommend - great colors to show off the blu-ray! :D

I agree with Wingnut except to add - only the second half of transformers. The first half of that movie contains lots of things that should have sounded really cool, but didn't. Apparently the sound man woke up half way through though and the final battle is awesome.

Agreed. The intro scene seriously lacked punch in the sound dept. There is one fantastic slo-mo sequence near the end of the movie that probably would bottom out my sub if I had it turned up any louder. Sigh.....here's hoping for an SVS some day.

House of Flying Daggers is perfect. The "drum scene" is a classic and sounds killer.

The Jazz - rocket jump where he fires at the ground to jump over someone on the ground... That is just awesome - you can feel the bass roll over you in waves..... :D

A no-brainer for me is Dark Knight. Wall-E and A Bug's Life were recent purchases that I was impressed with as well... really ANYTHING Pixar is going to be reference. Can't forget Casino Royale!
