I'm having evil thoughts of putting a lowball offer on a pair of 2.3's that are for sale on ebay in my town. But they're the original $2200 2.3's, not the 2.3 TL's. Wondering if there's a crossover mod I can do like the 5.8uF on the 2B's that would let me use 198's in them?

I have a pair of 2.3tl's with 198's in them and a pair of reg 2.3's with 194,s in them and not a whole lot of difference I can tell between them, the tweeters that is

I believe they would, also you would have allot of crossover work to do as I believe only low frequencies go to them and reg 2.3's are set up opposite compared to the 2.3 tl's

I think the cabinets are different as well.

I think it's cost prohibitive. You should probably just keep looking for a pair of TL's. I've heard both versions which were fully upgraded with new crossovers and tweeters. To me it was six of one and half a dozen of another. The 2.3's may sound a little more laid back. Depending on your taste, this may be to your liking. I found that using MIT speaker cables brought the sound forward a bit in the 2.3's. Both are great speakers, but I don't think replacing drivers, tweeters, building a new crossover, etc. will get you that much. Just MHO, others may see it differently. We're all fan boi's of our own toys:D

As much of a modding freak I am, I would not bother doing the coversion. Thanks much for your opinions between the models.

The same goes for the 1.2 and 1.2TL Ben. They were different but I couldn't say one wa better than the other in SQ, just a little different. YMMV.

Yes, they can be converted. I have converted mine, and then modified the conversion to sound as close as possible to the 1.2tl. The original thread can be found here:

The modified crossover design can be found here:

I have to admit that it's a lot of work and probably cost prohibitive, as others have mentioned. You need to change the drivers, tweeters, crossover, and wiring harness. I don't believe there is any difference in the cabinet, but the left speaker becomes the right and vice-versa when converting the 2.3 to the 2.3tl.

Sounds unwise to buy a pair of 2.3's with the intention of upgrading. Earlier post was correct. Wait for 2.3TL's to come along. Not that I'm buying new speakers, of course.............
