Martin Logan Depth i or SVS PC13 Ultra?

The title says it all. The sub will blend with 2 LSi25 subs and I am 80% music 20%HT. I can have them for same price but I still don't know which one I am going to buy.

Consider a Epik Dynasty. I have 4X LSi15s Front & Surrounds, an LSiC Center, and vintage Model 10's in the rear... all on top of the Dynasty "foundation". Really really happy... totally awesome low end. Keep the spackling compound handy.:cool:

I have the pb 13 ultra, and it is great. I imagine though, since you are 80% music, there might be a better choice somewhere for you.
Don't get me wrong, the ultra sounds good with music, but it doesn't really give the thump of a bass drum like you would expect. It's not really, really tight like I would want if my main use was for music.

For home theater though, it will blow your mind. I was never a really big movie guy, but since getting the ultra I can't watch enough of them. It will literally almost make you sick to the stomach with some of it's low bass. The incredible hulk has a scene where it has waves of 15 hz bass that you can't hear but you can feel the pulses running through you.

The ultras are great subs, but for some reason I think that you could do better for music.

The Martin Logan is a much better musical subwoofer. It will do Movies extremely well, it does not have the sheer impact of a SVS sub but does it with better control and quickness. I feel the Martin logan is much easier to tune into a system. It goes away. It becomes apart of the system.

Just my opinion...

Every SVS I have heard (so far) sounds like an insane thunderous slam. Just dominates the room and shakes everything.

In comparison, on my Dayton Titanic you cannot even tell if it's on. It blends very well and does not dominate the room.

I would go SVS for movies, ML for music.

I must agree with Dan. I've loved my Depth. It is very musical and as he says it just molds into your system.

I haven't heard the SVS so I can't comment on that, but I have heard plenty of Martin Logan subs (including the depth) and they are wonderful, especially for music. If I were listening to my system 80% music, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the Martin Logan.

Haven't heard the Depth and I agree the Ultra13 can easily dominate the rig...a good thing for HT effects, but overwhelming for music. I've experiemented quite a bit with it to tame some of that. It's really quite transparent and not heavy handed at all if calibrated correctly at the crossover, run cold vs hot, so that the bass reinforces the mains...and...if you seal it, scrub the room gain, and get a more or less flat response, it exhibits all the best qualities of other high end sealed subs. One of the reasons it's got so many flexibility options is (da-da) that it's flexible. Take the time with it and you won't be disappointed. I've been running mine sealed for a few months with great results, butya no, this weekend I unsealed it and am running in 20hz tune since I've been watching a bunch of new BDs on my new Oppo. It's still musical, but sealed is better, though HT is more fun. I've compared it to Velo DDs and Rythmik sealed subs. Other than being more powerful, it doesn't take a back seat in SQ to either. Rooms and calibration issues are usually the culprits, not this sub.

I still haven't tried mine sealed yet. I guess I shouldn't have commented on the SVS not being musical, until I have tried it sealed. In all honesty, I was so overwhelmed by it in the 20hz tune, I forgot you could change it. I think this weekend I will try and give it a shot sealed and see how it sounds.

Thanks for inputs and advices to all. I pulled the trigger on ML and it is the best music sub I have ever owned. I am in heaven with music now.:p
