I'm looking at the sr6500 or sr5250 for my ford explorer front doors. I prefer to install them as a coax. I have reviewed the listed mounting depths of each speaker and the mounting depth is not an issue. But I need to know how far the tweeter protudes from the mid-woofer mounting flange when installed as a coax.
I would plan to mount these in the stock speaker locations and want to verify if the tweeters will clear my door panel without modifications or cutting the door grill out. I have not been able to find this measurement in any online manuals. I can't really cut out holes in the door panel and use the included grills as the grills would have to be cut to fit.
I called Polk tech support and the rep just said "about an inch" for each of them and it sounded like an estimate. I assumed the 5250 would be less than the 6500. There was a good discussion of this issue on this forum a while ago(see link below), but no measurements were listed. Any help would be appreciated.
Lastly, if only the 5250 is an option, would I just be better off going with the 6 1/2" mm coax for better mid-bass?
