Some advice or help with my subs please!

This is my first thread/post and am pretty excited to join this forum. :cool:

Alright, I have the Polk Audio DB 212-2 12" subs that I bought used from somebody. One sub is 4ohm, 720 watts rms and 1440 watts max. So being bridged they total 2ohm 1440 watts rms and 2880 watts max. Right now I have them hooked up to a Boss class D 2600 watt amplifier. I want to know if this is fine or if I should invest in another amplifier?

I also have always smelled a sour burning smell coming from my subs which has resulted in me drastically turning down my amplifier. Does anyone know what that can mean?

Also if the subs rms at 1440 watts, does that mean I only need a 1500 watt amplifier or stronger?

I'm sorry because I don't know that much about this stuff. Any help is greatly appreciated! :-) Oh btw, everything is hooked up to 0 gauge wire, high output RCA's, and thick speaker wire ensuring optimum power.

Welcome, have you upgraded your battery? or have a cap? IMO you can do better than Boss. Also remember running that much power you might want to get a more powerful alternator. And also even if the amp is tested to 1500 in the shop you will loose power through your wiring.
Burning smell is never good, this is an indication that something is wrong, I would stop playing it and find out whats wrong.

My battery is practically new and a much more heavy duty one then my original. It never dims my car or anything like that. I am currently selling the amplifier because I want a better brand. Any suggestions to what would be a good combination? Since there is a burning smell, I don't play it for as long or for as loud. Any ideas as to why it would be doing this?

sounds like the voice coils are burning,are your subs in a sealed or ported box? if its ported the problem may lie in the port tuned frequency
