Found a set of what I think are going to be RTA-8L or RTA-8TL's. The woman said she had them since new 1991, and are in perfect condition. I would like to hear any feedback on these that you may have. I can pick them up for $50.00. These would only be used until I find the SDA's I am looking for.

Haven't owned them myself, but those speakers have respect around here. Noel had (has?) a beautiful pair of 8TLs, and Cathy still loves her 8Ts.
People were impressed at the sound that they put out when mated with a tube amp at one of the Polkfests, too. Hopefully some will chime in.
For that price, I'd say it's a no-brainer. That born-on date suggests that they'll be the TL's, I believe, which have the SL2500 tweeter. You could get the RD0198 replacements for them if you were so inclined.
Good luck,
Jay

I'd say as long as they're in even remotely decent shape, you should pick them up. You can always flip them for well over that when you get your SDAs.

No brainer...get them. They also share the tweeter and some drivers with some SDAs. I used a pair of 8Ts for surrounds with 1Cs for awhile and the timbre match was very close. They also worked as fine fronts...surprising bass out of those little towers.

Get them. My RTA-8T's are 19 years old & going strong. Feed them some good power & they come to life.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I have called the person and if they are as nice as they say they are they will come home with me. I also am going to hopefully pick up a set of monitors 2 while down there...The person is asking $25.00 for the pair.
I will be feeding them with a Adcom 555 amp.... Cannot wait to actually hear them.

Go get 'em man! Maybe you'll like them enough to delay your SDA purchase until a good deal like that comes up for what you want!

I second that. We set up a pair running off an 8 watt push pull tube amp at the first Baltimore Polkfest and that rig was a real eye opener. There is a pair local to me for $125, and if I had the scratch I wouldn't hesitate.
Cheers,
Russ

It's $50 no big deal, I'd even buy them as parts units.:D
I'm using RTA8t's for rear surrounds, working great.

I have a pair of RTA 8TL's I use in the house I am building with the Accurian amp and it sounds better than it should.

Last I talked to him, it sounded like he was going to check them out in person today.

Well the woman decided after researching these speakers that she wants $150.00 for them not the $50.00 that she agreed to (she set the price). I am sure they are worth it, but I lose faith in the person who cannot keep their word. So I never even made it down to see them.....Guess Karma must want me to SDA's instead.

Boy, that's lousy. Another pair of speakers will come along, but it always stinks to have the carpet yanked out from underneath you.

Edit: There's a decent chance she won't move them at that price, let her know that your offer of $50 stands, then let it go...
