View Full Version : [Help Needed] Atrium 60 vs. Atrium 65SDI

I understand that the advantage of the Atrium 65SDI is:

Quoting Polk ~ "Dual Input/Single Input Switch. Combined with its ingenious Dual Tweeter Array, this switch allows the Atrium 65SDI to be used either as a single high performance stereo loudspeaker, or the left-or-right speaker in a high performance stereo pair."

My Question: If the speakers are used solely as a stereo pair, does the Atrium 60 offer any advantage at all over the Atrium 65SDI? (Other than price, of course.)

Fwiw, I ask because pairs of Atrium 65SDIs seem to appear on the Polk Direct eBay site more often than the Atrium 60s and I’d like to buy one or the other.

Thanks,
Dave

I have the Atrium 65 and they are excellent speakers with the classic Polk sound, I have them wired as stereo L\R system. They have 2 tweeters as opposed to the Atrium 60's one.
I've never heard the 60's but I have listened to the 55's and I can tell you the 65's have a much better low end.

I think the difference between the 60 or 65 probrably won't be too great so I'm sure either one would be good, and I haven't seen any good deals on the 60's.

Jimmydep,

Thanks for the input on the 65s.

Yes, as you surmised, I’m asking about the 65s because I haven’t seen any good deals on the 60s either. I wanted to make sure there wasn’t something different or surprising about the 65s before buying them in lieu of the 60s. But now, the 65s have disappeared from Polk’s Direct site. – I’ll just keep watching and maybe go for whichever is the first to reappear.

Thanks again,
Dave

Welcome to Club Polk Wind. I have both the Atruim 65's and 60's from Polk Direct. The model #'s and quantities on Polk Direct seem to go in bunches. They had plenty of the 60's on there for a while, then the 65's went on. Both are great sounding speakers, although I haven't done the A/B test between the two, I did compare the 60's with the 55's and there is definitely an improvement in bass. The 55's being smaller are easier to mount. All I can say is keeep looking aht they will probably show up again. You can also call Polk Direct by phone and they can advise you.

I liked the 65 because it can be a single speaker stereo option for a bedroom TV driven by a garden variety two channel amp like the APA150 or SLA250.

Thanks xcapri79.

Given the input from you and jimmydep, I guess I’m now leaning toward the 65s since they seem to sound every bit as good as the 60s but have the added flexibility of the “single speaker stereo option” .

I’ll just have to wait for the next bunch.

Thanks again,
Dave

$220 for a pair of black ones on Amazon seems like a good deal to me.

Sitting on the patio, Warm breeze in my hair, Kettle one and cranberry juice in the glass, Fleetwood Mac on the platter, Atrium 65's singing away, Yeah Baby!!

Go for the 65's.
