Just saw the trailer for HBO's The Pacific
Wow! Really wow.. coming in 2010
At long last, here's the trailer for HBO's "The Pacific," the long-awaited follow-up to Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg's beloved WWII war epic "Band of Brothers." ... "I believe in ammunition!"
Dang this looks like it's going to be just at good as BOB. I can not wait. Originally BOB did not do well when if ran on HBO. Today... it's one of the best selling series on DVD/BD.
Check out the trailer for The Pacific.

Band of Brothers is the best thing ever put to film. I'm sure this is going to be a great series, and am very much looking forward to it, but it's going to be very difficult to live up to the standard that BoB set.
Band of Brothers was a film where literally every aspect was spot on and everything came together perfectly, you just don't see that very often - there's almost always at least one major aspect that's lacking from time to time.

agreed. BoB is not like watching a film or series.. it's like it's real life.. makes you feel that it was so well done, that you're experiencing it for yourself as it's happening.

Even if it's half what BoB was, it'll be the second best series ever. Band of Brothers truly set a new watermark.

Looks like a winner. A nice change up of looking at the Japanese side of the war this time.

Hmm... so I am guessing I need to order BoB right away, as I haven't seen it yet. Any of it. I thought it was a cheesy TV show... you guys are saying it is a masterpiece!
Where is the best place to pick up the series?
(And since I don't have HBO, I will have to wait on this next one... hope it is as good and I can put it on my Xmas wish list some year :D)

Search around online, sometimes Amazon has it for cheapish, but it's still a pretty pricey set. Then again, it's 10 hours plus lots of special features.
If you have any interest in war movies (and even if you don't - I"m not a huge war movie buff but I still found it engrossing), you won't be able to turn it off.

Got a copy coming my way! I am excited. Thanks Francis!

Band of Brothers is amazing, no question. If this is anything even remotely close to that, which it looks to be, it'll be very good. I may just have to subscribe to HBO to watch it.

I am glad to see some info about this because I just learned a few weeks ago that my g/f's grandpa(step grandpa) was interviewed and followed around for 8-10 hours one day a while back by someone with this film. He is going to be 88 and was a Marine in WWII in the Pacific campaign. He is easily one of the most interesting men that I have ever talked to in my life. He had told me a number of good stories from when he fought over there. I am really looking forward to seeing this and I might have to subscribe to HBO for a few months to watch it I guess.

I opted out of BoB when it aired on HBO ... cause HBO series IMO at the time more or less fell along the lines of TV puke. THAT was a mistake. My son introduced me to it a couple of years back. The early part is kind of slow, but once they are into England and beyond it all ties together! A masterpiece!
I cannot wait to see this Spielburg/Hanks potential for another masterpiece!!!! It all comes down to the acting. My father fought in South Pacific and told me many a story concerning his experience there. He would not confide them to anyone else in the family and these experiences were only shared with me once I became a teenager. He wasn't dwelling or anything, just relating some of the shocking things that he had to deal with ... like getting lost for several days in the jungle cause his patrol was being shelled and everbody scattered. He finally found his way back to camp to discover the company priest writing a MIA letter to his parents/my grandparents.
These stories were only confided in once in a while. While there have been many WWII films on the Pacific war, it has been felt that more attention has been given to the European campaign overall. I cannot wait to see this!!!!!!
