hi just bought a gfa 555 off of ebay to relieve my other amp of it l/r duties.It's the orig not the mkii and i was wondering how to check the caps , can i get a sense of a problem visually.I do eventually want to replace all the caps and do the bypass mod sooner than later.

If the caps don't look bulged up at the top, it should be fine. Normally, it is flat at the top.

I believe it uses the big cans for filter caps so it's unlikely that you will see any signs of swelling but look for any brownish coloured goo leaking from the top (terminal) side.Also crazy as it sounds you could use your nose:D.If you can detect a strong odor similar to dead fish they are leaky and in need of replacement.

thanks guy's it being delivered today,i'm just a little weary of hooking anything up to my rig just becuase i spent so much money that i really don't
have to spend again. if i blew up my receiver or speakers i'd be devistated .the amp have a 7 day return so no worries there.So i will look and and sniff around a bit before i hook up.
