OK, here is the event you've been waiting for (unless I've been fired and haven't read it yet!)

Ok, the dates are the first weekend in November....the usual deal, early bird social Friday night....Saturday festivus and get the hell out of dodge on Sunday.

I hope the dates are workable for everyone, September/October are busy for me...I did my best to accomodate everyone (myself included).

The location is going to be Charleston...after weighing everything out, it just seemed to be the easier thing to do.

Okay...so the planning begins!!!

Troy

Love the date. November will still be warm in Charleston with less humidity. I will be making this trip.

Ok, and just so we are all on the same page....those that attended the previous Carolina PF's, it's going to be along the same lines.

I'm going to bring the Quad rig down and set it up in the Shane Mann Memorial Auditorium...the 2.3tl's will be in the living room along with whatever else we can come up with.

For those that haven't come to one of my PFs....if you are looking for a primarily audiophile-centric gathering...well, you might be disappointed. Sure, we'll have gear to hear and a couple of decent rigs....but, if you are looking for a Transparent/MIT compare/contrast session, eh, probably not.

If, on the other hand, you are looking to hang out with some of the coolest folks on the planet and enjoy a Gosling's on ice, cold beer and the requisite tug on the handle of Beam...you will NOT be disappointed.

Also, the Jesus Head WILL be on display.

Convince my wife that Nov. 7 isn't her birthday. It may be one of those...take her out dinner then hit the road for an all night drive to SC.

That's easy, book a room at, say, the Vendue Inn....take her to the Oak Steakhouse, hand her your credit card and drop her off on the corner of King/Calhoun and come on up.....OR convince her to come along, I mean, TLW would LOVE to have some female company.

That's a thought...She really likes Charleston.

On the other hand...what happens at Polkfest...stays at Polkfest.

One way or the other...I plan on making the festivities. Maybe I hit the road EARLY Sat morning. I could easily be there by noon.

Hummmmm.... Lets see. A 12 hour drive, cost of rental car (not driving the truck that far), cost of fuel, cost of hotel for 2 nights, cost of food and booze... But I'd only have to take one vacation day, if I drove down during the day Friday, and left first thing Sunday.

Anyone along the I-95 that needs a lift down who wouldn't mind splitting some costs? I'm still in the "thinking about it" stage... but I'd really need some help with the transportation costs if at all possible. I know there's plenty of Polkies along I-95, and maybe, just maybe, some of them want a ride :)

Yeah, flying from here to Chaleston would be about my only option, but Troy is exactly right. Flying Space-A out of here to Charleston, about 1,000,000 to 1, lol. If I was at McChord, I would have a better chance, seeing as how they have C-17's there, and would be more likely to go to Charelston, than a KC-135 from Fairchild. 2T2 huh? I am a Crew Chief on 135's here.

Doubt that there will be any subwoofers here....the lineup is TBD. Will probably revolve around the Quad 988's (which will NOT play at aurally traumatizing levels) and the SDA 2.3tl's.

Again, this is primarily a SOCIAL event. There will be gear and there will be listening. There probably won't be much gear swapping.....I haven't talked with anyone from Polk about what, if anything, they are bringing to the party. Historically, it hasn't been about demoing new gear. Back in 2004, we gave away an XM tuna and we demo'd Polk Pauls rebuilt CRS's.....in 2006, we demoed the iSonic (one was raffled off to benefit the Githen's center)

The point being, if you are coming to hear the latest and greatest from Polk....it's probably not going to happen. If you are wanting to listen to some tunes, hang out with some of the coolest people on the planet and tell lies about women and audio, eat like a king and drink like a fish...that's what my Polkfests are about.

Why not? I mean, that's how we all pretty much started out....there really is no secret handshake to get in....all I ask is that, since this is my home, that you just be an *******. I mean, come have a great time...eat, drink, hang out. Really not that difficult.

Now, if you are a douchebag who is primarily interested in how much free stuff you can get from Polk, thinks it's a hoot to destroy someone else's home, be respectful of my wife, thinks this is a good opportunity to confront others with whom you may have an axe to grind.....that sort of thing, well, the beauty is I will (and have so in the past) dis-invite you. My neighbor is a cop (and a great guy) and should you prove to be one of the aforementioned douche bags, I can assure you that a night in the North Chuck pokey can be added to the program. Again, this has never been the case but I'm just throwing this out there that if you can't get along or control yourself to an extent....you get the idea.

Going to try to leave around 6am Friday to get there approx dinner time. If I get takers on the carpool, I'll rent a full-size. Otherwise, I'm cramming myself in an Aveo and trucking down. Or, actually, puttering. Departure will be no later than 10am Sunday to get back here.

I was thinking about driving, but...

Cincinnati-Charleston, non stop: $170 + tax

Dayton-Charleston via Atlanta: $130 + tax.

That with Delta, which is not the cheapest airline around.

Just the gas for the 1,300 miles would cost me close to that.

Good point Ricardo, except RAS might be renting a van and split between 5/6 people might not be too bad. Nothing solid yet, but that's been discussed.

Guess we better get our asses in gear and decide who is going and how we're getting there. I haven't looked at the route so I'm not sure if you're on the way or out of the way. With Rich driving it won't matter, the ETA will be the same he'll make up the difference with speed :D:)

F%$&@ing oil prices!!

Was $170, now $195
Was $130, now $194 :mad::mad::mad:

No...just people from this forum.

BUT the only event that Polk actively supports and employees actually attend.

The past attendees are Al Ballard, Stu Lumsden, Ken Swauger, Matt Polk, Mark Susskind, Monica Robles, Hedy Klopfer....all heavy hitters at Polk and/or the most loveable.

This year it'll be Patrick Chobrak(Web Pimp and Polk IT) and Al Ballard(VP of Marketing).

But my chances are kind of low with two new guys floating around the store :)

Man, I was sooo looking forward to going this year--but my kid recently joined cub scouts and turns out his first camping trip is the same w/e (WTF!!!). Well, we're going to do a test camp night out in the yard and will see if the camping trip will still happen at all.

Holy crap, I was originally planning to drive down, but I just looked it up on Google Maps--That would be a 10 hour drive :(--I guess I'd have to fly for that. Hmmm

honestly guys, Troy's fests are the best, it's an all out non-stop assault on audio, good times, and you just never know what else or who might pop in.......but there will be suprises, as we say in South....guaaaaaranteeeed. If you have only been to the factory fests which are no doubt awesome the ones in the member's homes are totally different, you just got to go to understand.

All you gotta do is show, all the goodies, swag and drink is taken care of, help BDT spend some of that Government Money he has squeezed tight on.

***TRAVEL ALERT***

From the official lineup I may be the only one affected...but I just want to let everyone that may be driving from West/North of Tennessee (TN, KY, OH, AK, IN, etc) that there is a major road closing. Anyone directed to take I-40 across the Appalachian Mtns. to get to I-26 down to Charleston needs to know that stretch of I-40 between Newport TN and Asheville NC is completely closed and will be for at least 4 months due to a massive rock slide. DO NOT take the detour out of Newport as it will be a very slow and crowded 2 lane road over the mountains. Take I-81 up towards Bristol/Johnson City and catch I-26 there. It adds exactly 50 miles to the trip but should only add about 40 minutes of travel time since it is all interstate with mostly 75 mph speed limits.
