I got it used for the basement setup but decided to go with an AVR instead. I picked this up last summer. I have used it a couple of times as a 2 channel pre-amp. Visually it is in pretty good shape. The volume knob has a sticky feel like the rubber coating is coming off.

It does have one known issue. The volume control only works from the remote. This is a known problem and I called Outlaw and they said it was around $75 to fix.

Given it has this issue and that the price of the 970 was recently dropped I don’t know how much this thing is worth. I would like to get $150 for it.

I have the original boxes and such.

If anyone is interested please reply and I can post pictures.

I have the same pre and for the price this cannot be beat, IMHO. Great price for a great pre.

The stickiness of the volume knob is common due to the material that was used. Same thing on mine. As far as the volume being controlled via remote only, who cares? We all use remotes anyways. ;) This is a great pre for a great price. This won't last long.

excellent unit +2. like was mentioned, we all use remotes anyway....together with my 3 parasound amps/yamaha amp and tannoy's it really does a nice job!

Lol. I use my remote even though I sit literally one foot away.

Maybe a stupid question, but would this preamp be an upgrade from Marantz AV550? I know that Marantz doesn't do DTS, but what about the overall sound quality? Thanks!

I have not heard the Marantz so I cannot really compare the two. My gut is that it will be an upgrade. I did notice that when I was using it as a two channel pre-amp it was neutral enough for me to distinctly notice the difference between the two power amps I tried with it.
