I was looking a turntable clamp to replace a cheap clamp that comes with Denon DP-500M. I found an Audiogon ad for Bren1 turntable clamp with great price and excelent looking finish, so I decided to try the standard one.

Scott (www.bren1recordclamp.com) shipped the order very quickly with no problem. The Bren1 standard turntable clamp's build quality is top notch with excelent/fine finish; however, it is a bit tall for the turntable cover. So, I asked Scott to exchange it for a lighter version (Lite... ΒΌ” lower profile, 1.5” on Lite vs. 1.75” on standard. The diameter is the same). It is no problem with Scott to offer a free exchange quickly. I received the Lite version and it worked with Denon DP-500M perfectly (with the turntable cover down).

I think he deserves a good recommendation to all who are looking for a fine turntable clamp and don't want to pay much money.

I posted a few pixs for your reference.

Is that a clamp or a weight?

Is that a clamp or a weight?

That is a clamp that sits on top of the record and the turntable spindle.

Does it grip the spindle and adjust the down pressure?

From the website-

"We manufacture the Bren1 and guarantee you'll hear a difference.
It works by weight, stabilizing record to turntable platter."

It's a weight, not a clamp.

The product is called "Bren1 Record Clamp". If it means to be a "weight", then it is a "weight"...

haimoc,

Does it actually grip the spindle at all? If yes, then it's a clamp. If no, it's a weight.

There is a spindle hole that fits the spindle in the base of the product. Do you think it "grips" the sprindle?

Can you turn the top to adjust the down pressure. If not it is a record weight.

Sounds to me like it's just a weight. If they actually showed the hole in the bottom of the product in any of the pictures, it'd be pretty obvious. But of course, they don't.

No, there is no where on the product that I can turn to adjust the pressure. By that, it is a weight, then.

Again, from the website, this time from the FAQ's -

"Will the Bren1 fit my TT spindle?
Yes, it is unthreaded.
If most records fit tighlty on your spindle let us know when ordering, we stock clamps with a spindle diameter custom honed a few hundredths of an inch larger than standard."

haimoc- not saying that it's a bad product, by the way... just that it's not actually a clamp. It does look nicely made.

Yeah haimoc I'm not saying it's bad, I was just curious as to whether it was a clamp or a stabilizing weight.

I'm using the Bren1 with my Technics. It's a weight. Works well for stabilizing the record and it's relatively inexpensive. It's machined out of aluminum and weighs about 13oz. I didn't realize they made a lower, lighter profile model. Scott sent me an email recently and they have a new anodized Bren1 available now. Cost is about 50.00. I plan on upgrading to a reflex clamp eventually. I've read excellent testimonies about the peripheral ring clamps. Need to get my VPI first. :o
