Ok,
I've owned RTi12 speakers for a couple years now and have thought they've been good, but not "GREAT" in terms of bass output. I've also read a couple reports of people not getting the low freq. output out of these speakers.
I've powered these things with:
Sony STR-DA777ES built in amps.
Soundcraftsmen Pro Power 10 amps (configured in two channel @ 600 wpc)
Stack of Sony TA-N9000's in "BTL Mode" running 400 watts per R + L RTi12 passively bi-amped. Sounded way better than the Soundcraftsmens. I was shocked after I auditioned the Sony Amps thinking it was going to be a downgrade. I was stunned.
And I finally picked up a real beaut of an amp with a brand new Sunfire TGA-7401.
I've got the Sunfire feeding four channels of power into each of the "monoliths", still passively bi-amped.
They are hooked up to the TGA-7401 as follows:
Current source for the top of the cabinet, and voltage source for the woofers. Seems to take the bright edge off of the RTi's tweeter.
These speakers absolutely CAME ALIVE and those six seven inch drivers, not to mention the midrange cones simply dance with the music now.
In two channel listening I listen in "direct" mode without my subs and these things play very clean, loud and low. It's not fatiguing at all either.
I'm "re-amazed" with my speakers all over again.
The Sunfire just really lit a match under my system and the power savings are phenomenal too.
Sitting idle, my three Sony TA-N9000ES amps would draw 350 watts, with no program material fed into them.
Contrast the one Sunfire, which has the potential to dwarf the three Sony's output in one box at only 40 watts idle.
Unbelievable.
I've had the Sunfire for over a month and I am just loving it.
FYI, I don't EQ my music nor mess with the tone controls Everything is flat.
