Well guys after all my griping, hollering and annoying questions I finally shot myself in the foot and spent 700 euro (just over $1000) on a 220V Marantz SR7002. I have been looking at receivers for quite a while and had narrowed my choices down to the HK AVR355, ONK 876 and the Denon 3808 but for what I plan to use this unit for I think I made the right choice.

I love the way the HK sounds but it has a lot of issues with the PS3 and firmware.

I like the Onkyo but it just gets too damn HOT.

The Denon is not warm enough for my tastes.

While some...if not all of these receivers may have been a step up (slight or great) to the Marantz, I liked the features and I love the sound.

Getting to the point already...

If anyone has any quirks or recommendations when using this beast I would greatly appreciate it because as some of you already know, I have been out of the audio game for about 5-6 years and a lot has happened since then.

Congrats on the new purchase. Marantz is a fine AVR....I'm also with you as far as the H/K and Onkyo are concerned...those Onkyos get HOT! I have one. And the H/Ks have been known to have 'issues' in the past!

How about a review when you get set up?

Thanks,

cnh

I will have an in depth review as soon as I get home for R&R. I will be home August 10th for 2 weeks and I expect to be like a little boy on Christmas day. I have the Canton's in their boxes still. I expect it to take me the whole day to setup my gear and tell the wife not to sit on top of the SVS so I will have my hands full. You will get your review by the 15th of Aug.

I might be deaf but I have a good ear...LOL

I've had Marantz surround receivers for years. Constantly upgrading. I stopped with the Marantz SR9200, which is a big, powerful boy. I use it with my LSI15's with nice results. I think the onboard DAC isn't too shabby in the unit too. I think you're really going to enjoy this piece. Best wishes. DJ
