Are you keeping the speakers there?

If so not a good idea IMO.

Tool i'd like to but by the time I discovered it's not "ideal" I had already settled on the idea of it all consolidated there.....but I don't know too much on just how un-ideal it may be. Please no restraints let me know. I will see what I can come up with to change.
It doesn't sound bad thus far...room is not big. But I definitely want to hear the drawbacks to this setup it is partly why I posted...altho yea ....fuck and drats does cross my mind.... :P

I like the corner shelf idea. I would just be careful with stability.

Not counting the corner position--just the proximity of the speakers being right next to each other--You won't get any stereo imaging. Everything will sound like its coming from that spot. Probably will just sound like a sweet boom box. I'm not sure what the corner loading will do, but it may not be good.

Equipment in the corner is fine, but you can relocate the speakers anywhere-that'w why they make speaker wire in various lengths. ;)

P.S. Nice job on the staining and such. Thanks for sharing.

The shelves are pinned down....I'm more worried about what I think Tool was eluding to possibly an accoustics issue.....but i've been running them from that local for a little while now...things sound fabulous more so with the 198's in.

That's the most important thing. If it sounds good to you then...

....but

you might be missing out on better... :o

Try it out.. Get some speaker wire, move them out into the room, spead them out a bit and listen. Even if it would never work practically, just try it. Or if you would rather not know and are quite happy....leave them be. ;)

Definitely will.....I have plenty of monster cable....it's just the space that is limited...but I'll just have to put the noggin to figure something out...you guys are right this has to effect the stereo effect...possibly to a large degree.

in that corner they are both very much out of the way and not blocking passage to anything...elsewhere is where it gets difficult.....I may have came up with a different layout for other things in the room....had I been hip to imaging...(bangs head against wall)

You're never going to get an accurate read on the sound with the speakers in that location and you have the wrong tweeters installed.

Nice shelves though.

XO's were modded for the 198s.

If u can offer some more info on the location...just for knowledge it'd be appreciated.

Ok, gotcha with the mods.

Your speakers need to be along a wall, separated by at least 4 feet, 6 is better and slightly toed in.

+one on what F1 said. Move them around if you can, you will like them better I am sure of it.

I do like the shelves.

Nice Job!!

Nice job on the shelves! Can you post a pic of the room? From what you posted, looks like a window to the right. Just a suggested starting point from the guess on the window. I would position the left speaker in the pic to where the right speaker is and try to get it out from the back wall a little more. Then move the right speaker to the other side of the window (if there is one, guessing from the curtain) try to get it equal distance from the rear and side wall as the left speaker. Then you can work with toe in, and distance from walls within what ever room you have left. Google up "speaker placement" and you will get lots of reading for typical "ideal" placement. Then you can tailor it to what you have to work with and what sounds best to you.

Your dead on...this is exactly what I was thinking to do....will google that..

Thanks on the shelves ...lots of work.

Really can't resist myself from wood veneering and matching the speakers to the shelves....the shelves match a table that was difficult to match..but it will have to wait a little while....but fairly certain it's going to happen.

Thanks again for all the info.

Any more suggestions on the surge protectors....we get lots of lightning storms lately and want something lightning proof really.

The only thing that is completely lightning proof is unplugging everything. For general surge protection and power conditioning, PS Audio makes good units.

Outstanding work! Have you looked at any of the whole house protection with a TVSS unit?

Looks good, but as others have said, get those speakers out of the corner!!!

As F1 said, they should be along a wall, ideally at least 5-6 feet apart, with a slight toe-in. With them placed in a corner, there are a whole mess of issues. Corner loading the bass, almost no stereo imaging, possible phase issues from being placed so close together...

Get them placed a little more appropriately, and they should sound phenomenally better.

You might want to look into the APC H10 power conditioner. I just got one, and I'm happy with it. It's got all the connectivity I'll ever need, and doesn't color the sound at all.

Tigerdirect has them on sale for $99 right now.

Curt thanks.. I like the specs on that....but how does it deal with power failure.

What should be our concerns during a power failure..? I have a projector to also try and protect....

it seems like that model offers protection and conditioning but no ups?

is battery back up a good idea for us..? seems like it is....cause it would allow us to shut down...un abruptly......or will the above conditioner do that for our devices automatically??

the price is right and so is the voltage ratings.....

anybody hear any bad stories from this brand? its one I never heard of but again the price is right and it has AVR....

my goal is to buy this first now....then go with a 2R20W Zerosurge....to offer some protection from lightning on that one off chance for the worst case scenario which as the story of my life goes....probably isn't a one off chance.

please let me know.

I have one, never had an issue with it. I believe Stereophile also thinks highly of it.

Face this looks good only it's rather long at 20 or 24 inches deep.
It doesnt matter tho because I really don't want to sit this type of equipment on my shelfs.
Got any floor unit suggestions.....I do like the better repped brands...and the price band we're in.
