DVD player wired for CD

Since I use my Toshiba HD player for DVD's, I want to use my old Sony DVD/SACD/CD palyer for CD's only (& SCAD). I have the SACD properly connected to the receiver but I am confused about the best way to connect the audio for the CD's. Will I get the best CD sound with simply a good pair of RCA's connected to the receiver or should I go with a coax/optical connection?

Subjectively, I prefer analog. Try both analog and digital to find out what your ears like.

Edit: Just occured to me...You will need to use an analog connection to pass the SACD signal to your receiver.
The DSD signal cannot be output through coax or toslink. Use the best RCA analogs you can.

I used my first Sony 1999 DVD player as a digital transport for my DAC, and it worked great. I have really become a fan of standalone DACs. The DacMagic is getting good reviews, and stereophile compared its sound to the $1500 Cambridge-Audio 840C CD player.

I prefer digital coax over fiber. Of course, you need to get a good coax to get an improved sound.

Personally, I started with a Benchmark DAC1, and recently upgraded to a Bryston BDA-1 DAC. Once you get a DAC you need to start thinking of a music server for your CDs, instead of just a CD player as a transport. A music server opens up a whole new world of audio fun.

A digital connection in theory should sound better as the content is delivered in digital form. As a rule of thumb, the longer the content stays in digital form, the resulting sound (or picture for HDMI or DVI) should be closer to ideal.

That's what confuses me. If the audio sounds better in digital form then what is the point of having a DAC either built in to a CDP or external?:)

All DAC's are not created equal.

Plus, speakers ultimately need an analog signal. At some point in the chain the digital signal must be converted to an analog signal.
