shorted a control board...SPARK!!!!

Dealt with it hot, needed to jumpstart a relay/ defrost/ heater on a ADC (Adaptive Defrost Control board). In the process of the troubleshooting our half dead Maytag refrigerator when it occur. There was a visible spark so I was wondering if the board is still good/ functional or RIP. Please advice.

it would all depend where the short actually occurs.

if the voltage went to ground and if you were lucky that it bypassed any critical component.

probability has it that the board (ICs) are trashed.

That is why you ground both you, equipment, and what you are working on using a
wrist ground strap.

Who knows maybe you are lucky and nothing but a spark occured.......

Before given it the kiss of death, try repowering it... Remove power for 10+ seconds then plug back in.

If your coil is icing up, more than likely it's the limit sw. that's bad, not the board.
I'd recommend, that IF it is dead, record the model and serial number, off the data plate, and go to the manufactureres website, to find out where you can purchse a new one.

Our ref was not cooling so I assumed it's the ADC. Per my research, this is the common issue.

i did not know ADC stood for so I looked it up
and found this quick check... ironically it says to short
to initiate the defrost mode... (?)

The newest defrost feature in modern fridges is the electronic adaptive defrost control board. *Maytag has one version, see picture...to put this adaptive defrost style of fridge into defrost, short with a small screwdriver between L1 and test on the adaptive defrost board, wait 3 seconds and you should hear a "click" noise from the relay and the fridge will shut off and go through a defrost cycle
